February 12, 201214 yr Hi everyoneGreat to be part of this community!I am using windows 7 64 Bit and have installed FSX on it.It's automaticly gone to Program Files (x86) does that mean that FSX is playing as 32Bit?If so can i make FSX play in 64Bit?Thank you :)
February 12, 201214 yr If you're not too far along in your install you should re-install FSX in its own folder. Something like C:FSXWindows has permissions issues and protects some file writing to the Program Files folders. That could cause problems with add-ons that require saving things (FMS data, etc.) in the FSX folder. EddieKABQ
February 12, 201214 yr If you have the oppurtunity to get another hard drive to install FSX to by itself you may want to try that as well. The consensus over the years here has been that this may yield some benefits as far as load times; texture loading; etc. If possible you may want to try turning off User Account Control (UAC) to avoid add-on install nightmares. Thanks for listening, Kail
February 13, 201214 yr Author Thanks guys.due to the fact that windows 7 prevents certain apps being installed in certain places would i be best off playing it on a 32bit XP?Thanks :)

February 13, 201214 yr Vista/Win 7 have made some changes on file/folder permissions. I think for most situations it makes these OSs less vulnerable to malware. A side effect is that software such as addons that are "untrusted" have less rights to file/folder permissions. For FSX, istalling to a root folder which you create will prevent these sorts of untrusted software problems from affecting FSX.Apart from that, 32 bit programs can run better on 64 bit versions of Windows (they use something called WoW64, but you don't have to do anything to make that work). To get full benefit of 64 bit Windows you need more than 4Gb of RAM installed (though even 4 Gb RAM will be better used by 64 bit Windows because your hardware needs some memory of its own ). scott s..
February 14, 201214 yr Author Ok thnaks guys.Im using an ATI Radeon HD 6 Series card which is 6550DHave a Medion which is 4GB RAM.It is a quad core. The RAM i think is DDR3.would you have said this is an ok spec?so would you recommend maybe installing FSX to just C:?So C:/FSX?Thanks again
February 14, 201214 yr so would you recommend maybe installing FSX to just C:?So C:/FSX?HelloIf you only have one drive C:/FSX is the best place to put it.Never in Program Files (x86), FSX will work fine from there but in the future you may buy an addon that won't exchange data with FSX if FSX is in Program Files (x86)
February 14, 201214 yr echoing...... echoing......echoing...... NEVER put FSX inside the Program Files(x86) folder - and please - put it on another drive if you have one.You will be light-years ahead by uninstalling FSX - right now - and then reinstalling it elswhere. February 14, 201214 yr reinstalling it elswhere.+1W7 with UAC enabled is as picky about stuff installed on the root of C as it is in PF. Stick it on a whole separate drive and disable UAC (or always remember to install any addons/start FSX as admin)bestjake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
