Before I start,I will be downloading FLIGHT as soon as released, just to try it out, and see how it really is...Anyway, we all know that, if commercial interest is high enough, MS will try to turn FLIGHT into a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG). If MS does turn flight into a MMOG, (hopefully) thousands of new players will enter the game, and try to succeed in doing whatever FLIGHT's goal is (insert gold coin joke here). Of course, these new players will want to upgrade with new planes, instruments, etc.., the driving force for FLIGHT development. Now where do we, the hardcore simmers who spend hundreds, or even thousands of dollars for our hobby, come in?Well, every game needs to have a top player, right? We've been taught well enough to know what, "those four lights on the left/right of the concrete road" are, and reading instruments is second nature. I know that Microsoft itself won't offer friendly help for new users, so I think that we should stand tall as the "Mentors" of FLIGHT. I also believe that, sometime in the future, there will be posts by 10-year-olds saying, "which one's the speedometer?", or, "how do I lower the landing gear?" We were all there at sometime, wondering what the box with green letters was in the cockpit was, and how do I get it to work.Besides, apparently landing on a runway gets you 500 extra points :( (I actually can't confirm that. Not a beta guy, either)

Flight isn't designed to be a MMOG. Online sessions are limited to 16 players.According to a recent GameSpot interview:GameSpot: "How will multiplayer work in Microsoft Flight?"Joshua Howard: "We support multiplayer sessions for up to 16 people. It's a very simple system of saying, 'I want to play multiplayer.' It's a very simple system compared to what players might have seen in the past. You can host a session or join a session, and other people show up."

Wow. Someone forming an opinion based on his own experiences? What a novel concept around here... Good for you! Careful though, the natives are restless around and don't take kindly to logic.

Flight isn't currently designed to be a lot of things. However, the sentiment I am often encouraged to adopt is one of "wait and see... and give it a chance." As such, if we can wait around and hope for an SDK to emerge then I would also expect an avid Flight supporter to encourage Jackson's "dream" in equal measure.

I don't know why they even need a multiplayer if there is not going to be anyone doing ATC or any "shooting"? Maybe they will only compete and see whoever collect all the "rings" first.. Good Luck!

Watching fellow players trying to nail landings in small planes during thunderstorms could be great fun, allthough it could cause some ebarrasment too ;) -

I did that a LOT in IL2/Pacific Fighters in multiplayer missions. Once everyone was done with there mission, the best entertainment was watching everyone limp back onto the runway or aircraft carrier. I remember one time I made a perfect landing on a carrier, pulled forward and folded my wings right next to 2 other wingmen. Perfect formation of F4U's and the next guy botched his landing. What was left of his aircraft rolled right into us, blowing us up or pushing us over the front to be run over my our own carrier! Never laughed so hard in my life! Good times.Un controlled airspace is a real world reality for a lot of small GA airports and even some larger ones at night. Pilots must know how to communicate and orginize with those around them, so I dont see the lack of ATC as a huge deal breaker if your only dealing with max 16 players in light GA aircraft over small airports. Later on if they bring in big iron and there is no ATC? Then thats a problem!

In your experience, would you say it's likely or unlikely that in these 16-player rooms that one can talk to other players with a headset?

I don't own a headset, but Windows Live allows you to configure one in your profile.

Totally likely, but I hope only if you both tubne your COMs to the same frequency. Not sure how much realism Flight wants to incorporate...Cheers,- jahman.

As far as I know, Flight team has said something along the lines of "communicating with one another" via multiplayer. I would assume that they are referring to virtual ATC. *Crosses Fingers*
"communicating with one another
My experience and take on that was simply text typing in MP mode. No ATC. Similiar to what many VA's offer now with ACARS. I'm no expert but seems An automated ATC in multiplayer mode would be a monumental task. If they "MS" can pull that off I'm sure the FAA would like to talk to them. Eliminate 1000's of workers.

I expect voice com to all players in session as well as voice com to select players with common com frequencies tuned. But, that's just a guess of course... :(

Air racing? Flying competitions? Formation flying? Basic training with instructors? (Dont even need a chat room, teamspeak should be just fine!)I can think of tons of possabilities. :(
We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.
