February 16, 201214 yr I've been expanding my collection of FSX addons lately and so I'm looking for some input again. I had the ERJ series by Feelthere recommended to me, so I took a close look at that, and it appears to be pretty good with great systems modeling (I'm a concerned about VC visual quality, though). However, I don't own any payware addon scenery and I was wondering if I should start improving my scenery library. My concern about scenery packages is, however, that since I might only fly in or out of an airport once every few months, I don't know how much bang I'd get for my buck (though I do like filming movies in FSX, and addon scenery would greatly enhance those). What do owners of the ERJ v2 series have to say about that addon? And what would be a good scenery package to get (I visit LAX most frequently, is there a good package for that)?Thanks,boeing247 -Bram Osterhout
February 16, 201214 yr Ooohh...tough choice.Scored by quality I have to put FSDT's KLAX at the top. Look up Soya and his "Busy Airports" series. It will change how you perceive FSX. I have the ERJ and can tell you the external model and FDE seems real. However the VC is just eh... Also I can only stand to fly her in daylight as her night illumination makes me sick to my stomach (literally...something about the weird yellow color). If you are a very heavy visuals person this will drive you nuts. The FSDT KLAX comes with GSX at that airport FREE as part of the package and it will change your sim film experience. Either way...enjoy. Daniel Fernandez

February 16, 201214 yr GSX at that airport What does this mean? Gsx. Ive been out of simming for a while. Thank you i7 4790K 4.8GHz, 16GB DDR3 1866MHz, EVGA RTX 2080 XC. 1TB M.2 SSD, 4TB HDD, 4K display. P3D v4.4, FSLabs 320, ORBX Global, Vector, Fly Tampa Airports, FSDT Airports, ActiveSky, REX Sky Force
February 16, 201214 yr Author What does this mean? Gsx. Ive been out of simming for a while. Thank youGround services. So is the ERJ not a good product? The only companies I have jetliner addons from are Captain Sim, PMDG, and CLS (and I don't like CLS--I got those products when I first started simming and didn't know what the best companies were), so I'm trying to get a feel for FeelThere's quality level. Would you say they're as good as Captain Sim (obviously they're not as good as PMDG). And on the subject of PMDG, is the 737-600/700NGX expansion worth getting? Does it open up a lot of good flights and airlines that you can't fly with the -800/900?And about that FSDT LAX... It looks fantastic, but since it's a tad more expensive than other scenery addons, I want to make sure I'm getting my money's worth. How much does it cover? Just the airport, or some of the surrounding area. I live in the South Bay (just a few miles south of LAX), so it would be great to see the area around where I live modeled. And I know I'm getting kind of carried away in this post, but since I'm looking at a broad range of products now, what are the opinions on REX? I know it's a great program, but does it affect performance, and is it worth it (basically, would a new aircraft or scenery go further)? My main question about it, though, is, how much does it improve ground textures (airport or otherwise)? Aaaaaaand while I'm already off on a tangent, are there any other good addons I should take a look at (as far a good addons go, the better part of my collection includes NGX, just about everything by Captain Sim, and the Airbus X). Thanks! Edited February 16, 201214 yr by boeing247 -Bram Osterhout
February 16, 201214 yr I have the ERJ145... good systems but the VC is blah.. I highly recomend the E-Jets v2 - it has the ERJ-175 and 195... very nice.. the vc is much better. no pmdg but much better over the old erj145. you will enjoy it.. keep in mind though that you won't have near as many real world airlines that use this compared to the 145.. but who cares.. it still good. Ciao!
February 16, 201214 yr I'd take a look at Blue Sky Scenery to get some very good photo scenery for large portions of the US. It's free but you can donate if you like. http://www.blueskysc...m/download.htmlKLAX is a great work from FSDT and the higher price may hold you back, but you'll get easy framerates and very good quality there. The ERJ V2 are a fine release and the only big downside may be the night lighting of the cockpit. They shouldn't be too pricey these days. The handling is very nice and they even come with a FO helping you out. As Brian said, also mind the E-Jets V2. They are even better in my eyes. For the US in general, UTX USA and GEX NA may enhance the experience a lot. The first part are the roads, rivers, shapes and landclass and the GEX one are the textures and the autogen. Since this stuff is from Flight1, there's a 30 day money-back policy in place.
February 17, 201214 yr Author Alright, I'll take a look at the E-jets and GEX/UTX. I still have two of my questions, though:1. How much area does the KLAX package cover? Just LAX or the surrounding area?2. Does REX affect ground textures (besides airports) much/at all? And is it worth the money? (I realize that can be subjective, I'm just asking if it will make a noticeable difference in the sim for just regular flying) -Bram Osterhout
February 17, 201214 yr So you don't have REX already? Ok, forget the rest, get REX first. :( Seriously, it does so much and will soon be updated for free. I think a similar product would be FEX. But I don't have that one.You mainly get enhanced textures for your runways (the ones with snow on them too), the sky themes, the clouds and so on. Lights, things for rainy days and all sort of optical tweaks for the default and old FSX system are included too. Look at the comparison shots on their page and believe me, it's true what they are showing. The thing also features a weather engine, which you are free to use. Means you don't have to, it's not needed if you just want to run the textures for example. It allows for some flight planning and sets the cloud textures accordingly if you like. This one will be updated too. As said, for free and looking very promising. They feature their upcoming options in their forums. The ground textures are not a thing of REX. That's one for GEX (acronyms are a flight sim fan's dream, huh?). REX is a general enhancement of the named items and some more. GEX features area based textures, so you have to buy the region you'd like to enhance. For instance, Europe and North America are separate titles. Now on KLAX, that's the airport only. Roughly to the borders of the surrounding roads. They have a demo option, so you can install it and get the full features for 5 minutes. I think that's on every FSX start, so you can slew around a little or do very fast touch and go actions. :( Edited February 17, 201214 yr by CoolP
February 17, 201214 yr Not sure you guys, but the Ejetv2 175-195 Guidance Panel, looks horrible. Texture completely out of blend with the whole VC itself.Have you guys managed to fix this?. Edited February 17, 201214 yr by tangerine My Youtube Channel (P3D/FSX/X-Plane Videos and much more!)
February 17, 201214 yr Author Okay, I'll get REX. The reason I hadn't purchased it in the past was because I was building my aircraft library, but now that I've built that up sufficiently (at least once CS or PMDG releases their 777), REX seems like a good product to move on to. I'll more than likely get KLAX, too.Last thing: From the perspective of owners of the 737NGX 600/700 expansion, is that a good purchase? Obviously the 737NGX is great, but the 800 and 900 models seem to fill my time sufficiently--does the expansion pack add much, or is it more of take it or leave it? -Bram Osterhout
February 17, 201214 yr For sure REX. Scenery vs Aircraft. How often are you at an individual airport? Your in the aircraft a heck of alot more. How often are you looking at the ground. Your looking out the windscreen and at the cockpit of an aircraft all the time. Complete ground textures, Ultimate terrain, Ground Enviroment, you use everywhere. Unless you fly out of one airport all the time then its like... nver mind. The Aircraft, the sky and the ground are the best investments. Then add airports. There are many good freeware airport addons also. ArDee
February 18, 201214 yr Author That's my concern with scenery addons. Since I fly in and out of LAX more than anywhere else, though (as I said, I live nearby, so I'm familiar with it), so that's what would make me consider getting a scenery package for it. And so what's the word on the 600/700NGX extension? -Bram Osterhout
February 18, 201214 yr FSDT KLAX or FlightBeam KSFO(they did a really good job for their first airport) Those two airports I would recommend. As for the 600/700NGX expansion, I bought it so that I could do more Southwest flights so yeah, in a way, it opened up a lot for me to do more flights with other airlines instead of limiting myself to Delta and other carriers that own the 800/900. February 18, 201214 yr Author Yeah, Southwest would be my main reason for getting the 600/700. I'll take a look at KSFO, too. -Bram Osterhout
