February 22, 201214 yr Recently I was reading an article about AA possibly in the area of no return (bankruptcy). In the article it was talking about who would possibly buyout. Personally I think the airline is too big to fall. Northwest and Continental weren't quite the same size. And even though I am a die-hard Delta fan, I would not want one of America's favorite airlines to fall through the cracks.tell me what you think! February 22, 201214 yr It is nice to think that all business ventures can succeed, and that we can hold a special place in our hearts for the companies of our youth. But, just as people age and must eventually pass on to make room for new generations, sometimes it's just time to go.American was one of the first airlines to embrace baggage fees, something none of us likes at all. In contrast, the "younger generation" airlines like JetBlue and Southwest made great sport of this, using the bag fees of the legacy carriers to draw customers to their own counters. I, for one, don't really understand how the legacy carriers expect to do business in the current environment, sticking to their old business models. They aren't forced to adopt the practices they do. It's their choice, and those who consistently make bad choices are not destined to succeed.
February 22, 201214 yr It would seriously suck if American Airlines went bankrupt. They've been through a lot, I know, but still. I will never forget their shiny metallic livery that always gave me headaches at the airport... i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
February 22, 201214 yr I never had any issue with AA.....Last I flew them was when I was working in a sales job taking daily trips from Toronto to Chicago / Kentucky / Cincinatti / Detroit, and fly home at the end of the day.The charge for baggage was never an issue. If I got stuck in Kentucky (due to thunderstorms) they had no problem getting me directly back to Toronto with Delta rather then waiting for O'Hare to reopen. They have great schedules so if you miss a flight for whatever reason, their was usually another one in 30 to 40 minutes. My first flight with AA was when I was 5 years old, flying from Toronto to Los Angelas with stop over in Chicago, I think that was one of the greatest days in my life being that age and going on a big shiney jet.....What more could a kid ask for.I think they will survive this and I certainly hope so. I will look into flying with them on my next trip back to the USA just to give them some more of my business. I have never flown Jet Blue or Southwest so I don't mind flying AA again.Cheers Edited February 22, 201214 yr by ytzpilot Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
February 22, 201214 yr Bankrupt? Just a way of reducing cost by forcing labor to take cuts and out scorcing. They aren't going anywhere. After the unions give in they will be more profitable than ever. Its a game that been played by airlines since deregulation!! Edited February 22, 201214 yr by Barnstormer1 ArDee
February 23, 201214 yr I last flew American two years ago, on a ski trip out west to Colorado from Boston. The planes and everything were fine, but the thing I noticed was that on 3 of the 4 legs, the planes were only about 1/3 full. The one full leg was crowded from people being re-routed around a big snowstorm in, of all places, the city I'd left to go skiing. When I fly JetBlue or Southwest, I expect to see full planes. When a carrier is taking a long 737 across the country with only 40 passengers, they're losing money. If your tickets already cost more and then you hit the few passengers who have chosen to fly with you up with bag fees, it's no wonder customers are lining up at the other counter.

It was normal for me to sit in the back of a MD-82 that is only about 1/3 to 1/2 full. No complaints as you get two seats to yerself....Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
February 23, 201214 yr I don't want to see AA go under, but hey, maybe it's payback for gutting TWA. Cheers, Jonathan
February 23, 201214 yr There's a lot more behind the success of non network carriers like Southwest and JetBlue. The major network carriers will need to restructure the entire operation to be able to compete. If they don't, AA won't be the last network carrier to go under.
