February 23, 201214 yr I have noticed this in GA aircraft that occasionally I will look away from the airspeed indicator will suddenly tell me that indicated airspeed will be 0, yet the true airspeed will be more or less what it was before the indicated went to 0. How do I fix this?
February 23, 201214 yr Pitot heat. When they freeze over, they can't give you an airspeed reading so it drops to zero. I think CTRL+H is the default command to turn on pitot heat if you can't find a switch in the aircraft. Shane Gavin
February 24, 201214 yr Pitot heat does not fix the problem in some planes e.g. C-27J - all heat on and it still collects ice like crazy and the airspeed drops to 0 until the plane descends to a warmer altitude. February 24, 201214 yr If it's only happening on some planes and even with the heat on, the systems of that special one may be the cause. But if the icing freezes all of them sooner or later, you can limit it with the registered FSUIPC. It will still allow icing, but not as severe as with the default FSX rendition.Look for the 'just no severe icing' on this screen. Don't mind the rest.

February 24, 201214 yr Just had this happen to me today on a flight from Oakland to Reno in the RealAir Duke. Airspeed went to 0 after flying through some clouds at 15,000 ft. Pitot heat was on. I was using FSrealwx, so I went to it and unchecked "icing in clouds". The airspeed stayed at 0 until I descended to 8,000 ft. I'll have to check FSUIPC on my next flight.Dale Dale
February 24, 201214 yr Which Duke, Dale? The piston version has a know bug with the pitot icing. At least it's metioned in the FAQ.
