I recall there was some local televised report about a FlightSim enthusiast who had never flown a cessna. He and a pilot and a reporter were in the plane while he took off, did a traffic pattern then landed. And the reporter said in his report that the simmer according to the grader did very well except maybe an overly hard landing. And the simmer had only experience with FSX( and maybe some addons). Now I'm thinking if one just had Microsoft Flight experience could one learn to do the same thing. Maybe Flight is a better GA flight mechanics simulator. Spin and rudder and some wind tunnel aerodynamics could be better simulated than FSX. But what about the aviation simulation, the details and nooks and crannies of getting a 172 flying around without busting a lot of regulations or landing harder than -1k ft/sec. Awareness of other vor stations and traffic. Adjusting engine throttle to rpm settings per Machado's lessons? Learning about being instructed to enter left downwind? That's what I'm not so sure of about Flight. I have yet to download Flight nor do I like their DLC model or having to sign on to MS live. Maybe I'll try it on another computer.

Super post Noah... Honest and heart-warming, and in what sometimes seems like a sea of bitterness, an exemplary and thought provoking message...I never immersed myself as deeply as you did but have a shelf full of flightsims that remind me of a lifetime of pleasure experiencing that 'bird's eye' perspective that (for me) is the very essence of flight. If 'hard-core' means simulating airline operations, then I am not hard-core. My heart strings are definitely pulled by GA and bush type operations. My pleasure with Flight is such that (and I do hope this is not considered heresy) I have now removed FSX and its entire entourage of hard drive consuming add-ons.Years ago I used to fly a UK designed microlight called a Powerchute Raider - G-MVNI. A single seater, flying under a canopy, top speed was only 45mph! I was in a club and got used to digs like 'when are you getting a proper plane?' After a year of this I met another Powerchute pilot, turned out that he had 'progressed' from flying BA 747s to flying microlights. He once explained to us that he got a greater 'sense of freedom' flying his Powerchute than his 747... Simple CAN be better, and I now look forwards to a renaissance of flight... with Flight.Cheers,Nick

I see this quite often. People flying tube-liners enjoy the freedome of the smaller GA's or even sims. Lots of big iron pilots flying Flight right now!

Thanks!I don't believe being "hardcore" requires airliners at all. To me, hard core is just wanting it to be as realistic as possible. In that regard, if you like to be a hard core GA flyer then you actually can almost be that with flight. The flight dynamics are as good or better than most FSX pay ware planes with a few exceptions. The scenery is amazing compared to FSX, well what scenery there is, lol. I wish you could turn off the little diamond on the screen that tells you where the destination airport is, that is a huge detractor for me from realistic. I'm actually fine with there being no ATC or AI since I never use either. Not having VATSIM sucks but I actually don't fly on VATSIM very much anyway. I'd like to see a bigger GA plane though, like maybe a king air. But if you like flying airliners in a hard core way then you're completely out of luck. MS will never produce a PMDG quality airliner.

Hi and welcome. :)Have you gone into Flight's option menu and tried to checked out the key/and button assignments? You have to select your joystick from the pull down list (it always defaults to display the keyboard assignments).

That's great Ark - when my little girl was about that age I took her to my flight school and let her sit in the cockpit. She loved it and still talks about it today!

Well here we disagree it's not even close to real life don't make that mistake, fun is another story ;-)Nice story to read and great to see they have fun...But the same holds for the Flight simulator sequel, both my son's where playing in Flight simulator FS2000and the famous Meigs field landing and takeoff when they where 7 and 9 years old lol in the home network with a Cessna 172... (even then it was great fun :-))Now in 2012 my oldest son is back form Phoenix Arizona USA with his ppl / cpl / mcc (and upset recovery training, real stall and spin training in an extra 300)rating almost done with his ATPL and with his 737 type rating at the KLM :-)He will be in the line of passion for aviation and pilots from father to son lolCheers,

Big up to your daughter, Noah..I have a son and daughter; the daughter isn't intresed in the slightest, but the son..he's 10 and has watched me on FSX since he was five. Pretty similar stuff to your dauhter..he did buttons and stuff until he got bored, then I decided to build him a PC, and now he's got a "new" PC under my desk at work, which will be brought into commsion when we move the house around *(his room is tiny atm)..he wanted it for FSX, but now he's seen me playing Flight, he wants that..bestjakep.s the cutest picture I've seen in _ages_ :)

I am going to let all my kids play MS Flight and let them pay my DLC! Great idea!
too bad my youngest is just 4 yrs which means I should start paying him pocket money already now, bad idea I guess as he may rather spend it on candies or matchbox cars. though he likes flying very much and often jumps on my lap, loves to fly around and since flight he actually loves to 'sail' with the icon on the water. which does not save him from crashing into boats, my crash statistic is tremendously high due to that kid, luckily crashes do not take away XP :im Not Worthy:

Great post and thread, thanks. I'm looking forward to spending some time with my grandson and Flight.Where does one get a Copilot Shirt? That was adorable.

If I knew I'd have them in all sizes, lol.

Noah, I'm afraid I don't see your point. Your child liked Flight, therefore flight is good? If anything, it seems to underscore it's inappropriateness as a sim platform.

Perhaps you should read the title of this thread and the OP to get an idea of what all this talk is about.
