Who defines value? In this case, It will be MS and the people who either buy or do not buy into this new iteration of the franchise. My own feeling it that there will be a lot of bitterness about those numbers.
In an interview (link posted here a couple of weeks ago, but I forget the source (Could be Cnet) The Flight Project Manager stated, one of MS's other games were averaging $29 a month in DLC per customer, and he thought Flight could do the same. So if you want to spend $348 in the next year on the kind of addons they are producing, be my guest, I'll spend mine on the PMDG 777, LDS-757 (If they ever release it), A2A P-51D Mustang, and have some left over for some more FSDT Airports. I've tried Flight, and it's really not bad for what it is, it's just there is nothing there, I can't already do in FSX as well or better!!!

Most people here already spend large sums of money on add-on's for FSX. The only differance between add-on's for FSX and add-on's for Flight is who is getting the money. I sort of find it ironic when people say "I spent $300 in add-on's for FSX, but MS is GREEDY for wanting 20$ for Flight!". Most aircraft in FSX are about 35$ or more, and a single airport is about 25$. In Flight, your getting about 30 airports (many detailed) and an aircraft for $20, and both the aircraft and airports are at the level of most 3rd party productions.Value is up to each individual to decide. To me, its a good value! Its honestly under-cutting my own products, but I know the "hard core" simmer will pay more to be able to fly to there airports in there air space, plus have the ability to use things like ATC and such.To each there own.

I have to laugh at the discussion about what costs what in the different games. All you guys seem to be FSX flyers. Let me ask you this, how much did the controls you use to fly your sims cost you? I have four CH controllers (yoke, pedals, throttle quadrant, Fighterstick)that cost a litlle over $100 each. So lets say $400 just for controls. If I keep going, what about the computer? My i7-920 cost around $1,600 when I built it. I'll keep going...RealAir planes around $40 a pop. Four Orbx areas, about $160. FSDT airports, My Traffic, REX, etc, etc, etc. These DLC's that go for $20 each are a joke. I mean inexpensive. Seriously, in comparative terms, the cost of Flight add-ons is cheap! Over time, I know they will add up, but what doesn't. Today, I filled up my truck for $73. How much DLC could you get for just one tank of gas. How about two tanks? Guys, this stuff is CHEAP! And do not get the wrong idea. I am not a wealthy individual. But, I have no problem spending a few bucks HAPPILY on hobbies I truly enjoy. My $.02 on the cost of Flight.Oh yeah, forgot that new Nvidia GPU's (Kepler) will be out in a month or two, $300-500 depending on which one of those. Twenty bucks for cool Flight stuff....(where's the EASY button?)

What do you need for Flight? The same thing!! Yes you can use the Mouse, but that option is in FSX too. Gamepad, , yup FSX works with that too. To really use Flight or FSX correctly, you need a Joystick or Yoke (Preferably Both options.) with a throttle quadrant, and Rudders. To use either as a game, the Mouse or Gamepad will do.

But we spend money on FS9 and FSX to improve airports and airplanes that were included in the sim. FLIGHT does not have any of the airports or airplanes that we buy add ons for in FS9 and FSX to begin with. And when Microsoft does add other parts of the world the airports will not be as detailed as a Aerosft or Fly Tampa airport.

But the point (at least as I understand it) is that many here do not hesitate to spend money to buy what they feel that need (be it 3rd party addons, or new hardware) to make FSX more immersive, are being overly critical about Flght's DLC marketing approach.Besides, if you have the hardware for FSX (such as an expensive Joystick/throttle), most of it will work equally well for Flight.

A LOT of users buy aircraft that was not included in FSX (such as the Piper Cub and Stationair that I bought). There are two different strategies, one has the entire world in semi-low detail/mesh (which you can improved by purchasing third party addons). The other strategy gives you the core sim for free and you expand it through DLC. Neither strategy is necessarily better.

And if all of those will be a castrated as the Maule (at $15) with no working radios and no working AP.....
I'm still "blown away" that you're still stating incorrect information, sir. Once again, the radios do work as do the HSI and B/K VOR2 head! The currently inop AP simply wasn't ready for prime time yet as the systems work necessary for it remains a WIP.

We're arguing that flight is too expensive based on pure speculation on future, unannounced products. The hawaian island pack is probably the best value, for me, of any addon i've ever bought. The maule is possibly a little expensive for me - as i don't like taildraggers, and i would like an autopilot. I bought it because i wanted to try it out, if you don't want to microsoft doesn't force you.Saying flight will cost '$180 for x', or $30 a month, and then comparing it fsx makes no sense as you can't spend that money on flight even if you want to. It's about $40 for three pieces of dlc, if they sound like fun to you. It's been out for two days, folks. Give it a chance.

I think it was in the beta forums were i had a similar post with less detail in the prices .But lets add another take on the same thing. So lets say i got fsx FOR 30? .went home and install it and ohhh man those clouds are not what i want . lets get REX , another 40 . now im here taxing around lets say KMIA but look man this is not what i saw when i was in Miami , lets head out to the simmarket and see what fly tampa can get me . fly MIAMI another 22$ . So here im trying to figure what default jet i want to flight in to KBOS .Oops that 738 its too simple , I wonder what PMDG can do for me ?? here i go to spent another 70? on the NGX(by the way that plane should of cust alot more than 70 for its quality) ill stop here and hope by now my point its clear like in the post by nismo that i quote . By the way when i got to KBOS i had to go back to flytampa and get that airport too. all of that for one flight ???? and not a single soul its mad about all the prices till this days . FLIGHT its new lets give it some time to show and see what we get .

rt, yes...I guess in simple terms, we've all spent thousands of dollars over the years for our gaming/simming hobby. People that proudly proclaim to be flight simmers for the last 15-20 years or more, have bought how many computers over that time? 5-10 computers, or more over that time frame, plus upgrades here and there. Every computer I've ever bought in the "earlier" days was at least $1500, probably closer to $2,000 for a gaming rig. All the software, all the add-ons over that time...For $15-20 for Flight DLC, that is pretty cheap. Shoot, when I got Megascenery Oahu, it was $19.95, Southern California was $39.95. I could go on and on. Oh, and I forgot TrackIR, another $125. LOL That's the fun (and frusatration), it never ends!!I guess everyone views value differently, which is fine, but what also has to be realized, whether we like it or not, things have drastically changed. The internet, subscrition based gaming, apps, etc have changed how entertainment is distributed and priced. People have a tough time accepting this, I understand.Oh well, more importantly, just tried the RV for the first time and it is very cool. I'm usually of the low and slow variety. The RV likes low and fast, and with the smoothness of Flight, it was just fantastic.
