March 5, 201214 yr i was a user of FS9, have a long time FSX Deluxe edition (brought it on pre order), but i was having bad performance.here my system:Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66ghz4GB RAM DDR3 1.333MHZATI Radeon HD5770 1GB XFXASUS P5G41T-M LX2/BRHD 1TB Samsung (don't know the model)Windows 7 Professional 64bitsshould i move to FSX or stay at FS9?i like addons (ai traffic, sceneries and aircrafts), should my system run it without major problems?thanks ion advance.
March 5, 201214 yr Commercial Member It really depends what your expectations from FSX are given that you want all of those things. I would say, stay with FS9 until you can upgrade.Eric
March 5, 201214 yr Author and an upgrade would take a lot lol.well, maybe a medium config can run with it?
March 5, 201214 yr Hmm...I just ran FSX at 90% AI traffic and sliders at full right with my system and got 10 FPS at KATL... I'm not sure what difference .26 GHz makes, but I'd slowly pull the sliders to the right until you find that sweet spot of good looks and performance. Edited March 5, 201214 yr by Wendall
March 5, 201214 yr Hello Matt,Welcome to AVSIM and the FSX Forum. I hope you enjoy our community as much as so many of us do. Be careful though, it is a serious addiction to fun!Kind regards,
March 5, 201214 yr Run both, nothing to loose. I've had FSX running on an AMD 2200+ for years. Sure you can't run everything maxxed out, but FSX can look pretty dandy nevertheless. I still use FS9 to fly the Aeroworx King Air which has no equal in FSX. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

March 5, 201214 yr Download and try the FSX demo. That will give you an idea of how it will look and run. Demo seems limited to DirectX9 however. My Duo2Core [email protected], 8Gig ram, ATI6970 runs it poorly at about 9fps on busy ground and low 20's in the air with FSX settings near 85% on all.PCIe 3.0 is the hopeful fix many are waiting for, least I am. heh
March 5, 201214 yr yeah, but any advice on fsx? tweaks i must do, graphics packages to get better performance etc?Overclocking your CPU will likely give you the greatest benefit.Other than that, turn off shadows and traffic in FSX and go easy on weather settings....and stay away from KSEA - it is really tough on performance :( Bert
March 5, 201214 yr Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66ghzHelloOverclock that 8400 to 4ghz and it will run FSX fine.If not then my advice is to stick to FS9
March 5, 201214 yr yeah, but any advice on fsx? tweaks i must do, graphics packages to get better performance etc? There are few universal tweaks - it all depends on your hardware combo. Just install it and see how it performs, then adjust accordingly if you run into problems. Sadly there are no quick and simple tutorials around, but if you have the time check out NickN's guide. http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.htmlIt's a bit chaotic, but I know of nothing better. Your greatest benefit will be overclocking but Q8400's weren't known for their clocking abilities. Most can run 3.3-3.6ghz, very few will hit 4ghz though. But for reference I ran FSX on an E8400 @ 4ghz with a 9800GT and was running around 30fps with a variety of addonsDownload and try the FSX demo. It doesn't have the advantages of SP1 and SP2, it's only the level of or slightly worse than FSX RTM
