Very realistic zero visibility ILS approach conditions.

Featured Replies

I've been practicing the missions that require tracking the ILS in zero visibility. This is one area where Flight really shines and shows it's potential. The fluidness of the gauges and framerates make this the most realistic ILS zero visibility practice I've ever done in a sim.

ILS landings are just plain fun in this game, and they really blow peoples'* minds in multiplayer when you fly in and make a perfect landing with 20 feet visibility.*these people being the free-players in Icons and Stearmans (Stearmen?) that seem to congregate around Hilo in every large lobby.

Landings with 20 ft visibility- maybe we should let the FAA know about this..

Yea, that's way below published minimums... ^_^Just the same it's good practice in a sim to rely on one's instruments alone and not what they see outside the plane.

You can do exactly the same in FSX!FSX is perhaps not so fluid, but you can set the visbility (distance), in Flight you can not, there is only"dense fog" !Guy

What is strange is that I never felt a leaning tendency in FSX. In Flight I feel this everytime, just like I do in RL. I'm not sure why it works for me in Flight, but the feeling of disorientation is very real.

Now that you mention it, I've noticed that too. Weird.Hook

Fun and empowerment is what make people learn... IMHO. So does this mean that Flight is more fun? Don't know.

Last I checked, this was the "Flight" forum.

Something that Flight does that stock FSX doesn't is vary the weather over distance. Try Isolated Thunderstors for example and a long flight and see what you get into.Hook

Still it's true that it would be awesome if the developers found a way do define the weather more precisely.

That's for sure. The first time I selected Isolated Thunderstorms I took off and thought "This isn't so bad." 50 miles later it was "OMG, get me out of here!"

'Fluid' makes all the difference.

I learned a bit about ILS in FSX years ago, and has totally forgotten it. And today, trying RV landing challenge in fog / soup / whatever it was, I had to re-learn pretty fast. I was no totally sure how should I read the ILS gauge... to be hones, I wasn't sure I am looking at the correct gouge :) To add a bit of stress, my wife was watching my progress. Needless to say seeing the lights of the runway just in front of me I felt like having second Christmass. Boy this was good!
