March 23, 201214 yr Yes. There's even a hint about it. If you don't want people joining, go to the multiplayer screen and set it for Friends Only or Private.HookWow I did not realize that.Thanks for the info - now I will know why if all of a sudden a Maule or RV appears out of nowhere and comes flying and/or taxiing in my direction, otherwise I might have crapped my pants or taken another look at my pain meds bottle! March 23, 201214 yr Belive it or not!things happen even if we do not have a picture,Have you ever noticed that? Yeah, there's a sasquatch living in a big tree behind my house.What? You don't believe me?
March 23, 201214 yr Moderator Yes. There's even a hint about it. Not once in the 100's of hours I've had Flight loaded has anyone "dropped in..." :Thinking: Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
March 23, 201214 yr That's certainly odd then, Larry. Not once in the 100's of hours I've had Flight loaded has anyone "dropped in..." Bill, your gamertag is n4gix, isn't it? I don't recall seeing your tag when I look to join someone to fly with. (This might be obvious, but is your NAT opened?) Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
March 24, 201214 yr Not once in the 100's of hours I've had Flight loaded has anyone "dropped in..."I haven't either, but the very first thing I did when directed to the multiplayer screen during the Tips sequence was set it for Friends Only. I have had a friend or two drop in.Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
March 24, 201214 yr Commercial Member I have my game set up as public, and I get a lot of people dropping in and out. Its really randome. I dont know how Live decides what server to join. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
March 24, 201214 yr Noncompetitive games like this usually prioritize connection speed, then try to match things like the player's "zone" (part of your live profile) and whether or not you've preferred, avoided, or muted other players. There may be a weighting for your level too, but I don't know which way that would go (preference to matching high levels to low levels, or to matching players of roughly the same level?). If you've avoided a player, you will almost never randomly wind up in the same lobby as them again in the future.
March 24, 201214 yr Moderator I'm still not convinced that simply starting Flight will automatically start a multi-player session.I know that I have to explicitly start up a session every single time I want to "fly online..." March 24, 201214 yr As long as you are configured to public or private, people can join.I'll seek you out when I'm online and try to join.
March 24, 201214 yr Moderator As long as you are configured to public or private, people can join.I'll seek you out when I'm online and try to join.That's precisely my point! I'm not configured for public OR private! I'm simply not "online" at all. You'll know if I'm available though since my "Gamertag" is my amateur callsign: N4GIX... Fr. March 24, 201214 yr As long as you are configured to public or private, people can join.Whoa, now if you are set to "private" people can still join? I may be reading that wrong, but that would not seem right to me. To me private, means well private... Don B
March 24, 201214 yr Doh, I meant public or friends .You do not need to start a "session". If you have a live account you are in multiplayer.
March 24, 201214 yr Moderator Dog, I meant public or friends .You do not need to start a "session". If you have a live account you are in multiplayer.Now I'll have to go ask the developers directly in the beta forum.I know what you are saying was NOT TRUE during the beta period, and have no reason to suspect that behavior has changed in the release.Logging into LIVE is not the same thing as explicitly starting a "Host Session" (otherwise what's the point of even having the option?) and unless I do explicitly start a "Host Session" I am not "online" in any sense of the word. No one will "see me..."As a matter of fact, I have Flight set up to NOT log me into LIVE automatically when I launch Flight. Instead, after starting Flight I choose to sign in to LIVE just so I can get the daily Aerocache if I've a mind to fly it...If I choose to Host a "Friends Only" session, only those whom I've chosen to be "Friends" will be able to "see me..."...and since I've not created such a list of "Friends" then no one would ever "see me!" :LMAO: Fr. March 24, 201214 yr Now I'll have to go ask the developers directly in the beta forum.I find this topic very interesting, will be curious to hear the comments from the developers regarding this.As a matter of fact, I have Flight set up to NOT log me into LIVE automatically when I launch Flight.How do you do that Bill? Now I do not mind at all being signed into Live, but early on when some folks were posting issues about trying to run the game without signing in, I did some testing myself and found it to be extremely difficult. In fact, it frankly would not let me choose not to sign into Live, it would restart and then there it would be again with the sign on screen. It appeared that the only way to run it without signing in first, was to disconnect the internet connection prior to launching Flight, which imho is an unacceptable approach to accomplish this.I remember I stated emphatically, this needed to be fixed, so it worked as described in the Flight manual - which stated all you had to do to fly without signing in, was to deselect the automatic sign in on the Live homescreen, and by not signing it you could go directly to the game and click on the play button. Everything I tried showed this not to be the case. Don B
March 24, 201214 yr As a matter of fact, I have Flight set up to NOT log me into LIVE automatically when I launch FlightI think I see what you did. You went into your gamer profile and set the profile to not auto sign in? Never tried this, never wanted to remain offline actually. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 99% of the players will be logged in by default.One my very first day using Flight, I had someone join in and follow me around. :)I believe that I can see you online right now, but I am unable to join you (assume that is because you are set to friends only?), and I am not your friend because you haven't accepted the request I sent .5 seconds ago! :Phbbbt:It says you are in Free Flight right now.
