March 22, 201214 yr The Flight crew is being assailed by many who took in Flightsim in it's earliest days. We must remain civil as they are providing us with an updated version which really is something I never expected. I thought the days of Microsoft Flight Simulator were gone... and they are... as we have known them. They have provided us with a very good flight engine, which shines above anything heretofore presented and promise us that they are working on other "goodies". They are not in business to satisfy one segment of the population, but to appeal to all. Otherwise, they had just as well go home and give up on the project. It is a business, after all.All the bashing achieves nothing but to make them turn away from all requests. I know I am not speaking for all, but would like to keep them on my side. I would like to see toe brakes implimented, but can live without it. I have learned to enjoy the "jobs" section and actually look forward to coming home from work and being able to fly a mission. Please refrain from caustic remarks which, in my humble opinion, could only cause them to look upon us "simmers" as simmering fools.Yes, I am geriatric, and have learned that I achieve more in this life by understanding that there is more to it than me.Thanks Microsoft, for not just letting the hobby die but providing it with new life. March 22, 201214 yr "...if we get 4000 emails from 4000 unique users asking for a feature, we're going to pay attention. I won't guarantee that that gets it into the game, but we're certainly going to talk about it."If we don't ask politely, we stand no chance whatever of influencing whatever does wind up in Flight... Excuse me, I've got to go open a bunch of Hotmail accounts...
March 22, 201214 yr If I was on the MS flight team I would keep a low profile because there are unfriendly natives in these here woods! It would be nice to see if the insurgents could be reasonably appeased, but unfortunately, it seems that short of total capitulation, no peace is to be had. I myself would just keep an eye on the rock throwers while going ahead and doing what I think I need to do.I suspect sadly, that in the short term at least, elements of the HC Sim community have damaged the best early opportunity for constructive engagement, and by removing themselves from the table have cleared the way for other voices to take the lead unopposed.Who would think a community as demographically mature as the various forums indicate would behave the way it has? I am still shaking my head. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. March 23, 201214 yr Lets talk about what we know about Flight then...there will be helicopters...many references are made and there are 3d static helo's in the sim as well as helipadsthere will be airliners (or jets at least) as we have well modeled large airports with well represented terminals and Jetways - VOR stations and GPS (Icon has one) so the code for glass instrumentation is apparentthere will be gliders - else why the carefull attention to wind effect and ridge lift?there will be more territory - we know of Alaska...what of Australia? Japan? after all - Hawaii is halfway to many placesthere will be a lot more to do once those additions are made WRT job boards, challenges and the like yeah?Doesn't anyone see the glass as half full around here? and if so - what would you like to fill it with? Whine? ? not me.How about asking for better user control of weather features - fine tune-ability of wind speed and direction, cloud density and upper atmosphere temps and turbulence?what else can be humbly suggested?

March 23, 201214 yr Doesn't anyone see the glass as half full around here? and if so - what would you like to fill it with? Whine? ? not meI have been seeing the glass half full for the last two weeks or so, the more I got into it, the more I saw the glass that way. And I have been stating over and over, giving examples.I truly do not understand why there are apparently many that are still so negative on Flight. Anyone would be hard pressed to find a single post by me on this forum, considered whiny. Respectful critique, like my beef on it not having Track IR support out the chute would be the closest, but is is respectful critique and I would not consider it a whine. There are more of us in here, some are just not quite as vocal...Your post is a nice example showing just a small part of potential this sim has. And it is in absolutely everyone's best interest, whether you like how Flight has been presented to market or not, to see Flight succeed. Don B

March 23, 201214 yr I have been thinking of this cartoon for weeks. oh I lol'ed at that so hard, eh - my gills hurt ..seriously though - these boards are generally more positive than the others - but I am sick of the crying that goes on and on.the boat has left the dock and the skip has stated that the course is open to some suggestions...I think we can collectively come up with a few winners and maybe get moreout of Flight than we thought we might. We know we'de like some kind of ATC...even basic VFR contacts with the towers would be nice - we don't necessarily need Tracon and IFR directs yetWe know we would like to see more AI flights in our Free flight modesOfcourse there is the track Ir functionality for manyMy intent was more to look at what is indicated as likely addons based on what we already see - there already is some AI in Flight, it makes it likely there will be moreWe already have nav radios and VOR stations - makes it likely we will see some kind of flight planning somedayWe see fuel trucks and emergency vehicles on the ramps at the larger fields that could be animated easily...I think the plan is just as MS Flight crew claimed - lets offer this much and see where the sweet spots are, run our 1year scripted playbook of addons and patches... and then look at what the people (politely) say in the form of critical acclaim or disparagement - and then discuss the possible, the likely and the most excellent why didn't we think of that remarks - and move forward...Seems like a smart plan to me - rather than "here's FSX - oops ok - here's SP2 and Acceleration...now forget about us - we're DONE you're on your own - good luck"This way - they stay employed longer, MS makes a better product based on net sales revenues, the whole flight sim genre gets a big shot in the arm with a heavyweight player staying in the game, 3PD's still have a shot at getting their hands on some involvement, and we have a smooth, beauty of a civilian flight sim to run...in addition to FSX if we like...for years to come...
March 23, 201214 yr I'm another long time FS-er (FS98), and so like many of us, I've been through the numerous iteratons of the franchise and the passionate sharing of opinions that greets each one (if memory serves, the FS2004-FSX transition was heralded by many of the same apocalyptic musings about the I TRIED TO USE A PROFANITY HERE - AREN'T I STUPID!ization of the platform as we've been reading about Flight). But each time Microsoft actually learns from this community: the Maule that came with FSX began, if I recall, as one of the best and most popular of the FS2004 freeware offerings. How long before a Goshawk shows up in Flight, I wonder? Moreover, the Flight world has been clearly influenced by REX and Orbx. And the business model for Flight seems to come from both Capt Sim's frustrating stepped-release (or hook-line-and sinker) add-ons and Rise of Flight's in-game add-on purchase model.I wonder how Flight will eventually figure out how to create a revenue stream for freeware? Over at Amazon, there's a fairly complete digital self-publishing infrastructure for writers, might Microsoft go that route? (with the complexity of FSX, the very best freeware artists can now be counted on half the fingers of one hand--I'm sure it won't be too long before at least one of them is getting emails from Microsoft, with a pdf attachment: "non-disclosure agreement").From my perspective, Flight seems to offer nothing but great promise. Microsoft's "burden" is that each new iteration represents the state of the art largely in terms of what kind of world can be modelled by current levels of computing power, and it seems most of us go, "Looks pretty, but we'd like to see some more flutter before that stall, please." For now, I'd rather fly and see what turns up next; it's not like I deleted FSX is it?And so my wishlist--since Microsoft is watching--includes only a patch to produce a slightly brighter game world and a more useful default eyepoint. Oh yes, and this place called Canada, how about a little chunk of that to putter around in? Please.TimThe word that the prissy text editor flamed me on was not profanity. The French word is "saluad" so "salaudization," I guess. Puleez!! If we're going to monitor tone, let's do it with more care. Aargh!
