No am I hardcore? No. I do like to get on the Flight sim sites daily to see what is new and I usually get in a flight or two each day but to me hardcore would include following all the check-lists, using charts, etc.

I said I usually fly Military. This is not necesarily true. I probably fly the big jets just as much. Usually to or from places I have visited or vacationed at. I have some purchased aircraft and will go through all the check lists, etc. but I also have some easy to fly free-bees that I like to get into just for fun. I use Active sky and Ground Environment as well as AES just to add some sort of realism on occasion. I have done a few of my own AI flight plans (succesfully). I hope to play around some more now that I am mostly retired.

IMO it would have been better to have multiple choices.

Hardcore Simmer ? Probably, I started sim in 82 (not 1882, just 1982, :LMAO: ).

I like to fly all types of aircraft (Ga, Airliner...and so) from the moment the different systems are represented as accurately as possible... (PS1, PMDG, Katana and so). And BTW I hate the planes cockpitless :Big Grin:

No and Low & slow (although 180 kt at 100 AGL doesn't feel that slow) for me for pretty much the same reasons as chdriver pointed out. I get my fill of rules and regulations in real life aviation so I'm happy to have a place where I can go wild without having to file a report after every flight.

Personally I am a bit of both low and slow and high and fast.. I love the big birds but occasionally i like to bomb around in a Cessna, especially in PNW..

IMHO, flying involves a lot of different skills, pilotage, navigation, hand/eye coordination, etc. "Hardcore" lately has come to mean someone who is some kind of fanatic; over-the-top, etc. I don't think we flight sim enthusiasts are over-the-top at all. We have a high standard of what we expect from a product tauting to be a "simulation". If a product is going to make that claim, we will hold them accountable. That doesn't make us fanatics, that makes us "realists". Anything less than reality is a game, and the user is a "gamer". So, I'm not hardcore, I'm a realist.

What I would have liked to see in the poll was the option of "I like a mix of both GA and airline(s) in a simulation". That's where I am, somewhere in between.

i say no because i never know about this and then i don't give any kind of remarks for about this poll

  • 3 weeks later...

I said no to HC because I've never used the GPS (never learned how), never programed an FMC (ditto), seldom read the manual, seldom talk to ATC, fly mostly VFR using VOR and ADF if I need help finding my way (even in heavy metal). I do like to shoot ILS approaches though.

I wish I could have checked "all of the above," that would have reflected my flying preferences. I probably fly GA most of the time, but I dabble in every type I can get ahold of. I'm definitely a "kick the tires, light the fire" type, no cold dark cockpits for me. If it won't start with 'ctrl+E' I don't go. Flight planning? No way.

Having said all that, I do try to fly within the aircraft's operating limits and obey the rules of the road around busy airports. Only land on taxiways when absolutely necessery.

LOL. :Peace:
