Landing dynamics and best addons

Featured Replies

Hi,when I do my flights, my favourite part is the landing. Watching those huge birds putting down their wheels on the ground just shakes me. That's why I love PMDG so much, because you can actually see the whole unloading of the wings, the shock absorbers compressing, etc...As silly as it might sound, to me it has become a must, cause I just can't watch anymore a plane just going flat when it hits the runway. I like complexity, the systems, the accuracy and everything else, but the ground physics just give me that final touch. I'd like to know from you, which addons give you the best feeling on landing. I'm really interested in big airliners and I've been checking out videos on the web, although many of them are too choppy or recorded during a standard FSX replay, so useless to compare. If you have a video to compare I'd be really happy to check it out. The best ones I've tried are the NGX as stated above, and the Piper J3Cub from A2A. Thank you! :)

Take a look into A2A Accu-Feel. It makes a bunch of very nice stuff, including tire squeal when landing, wind noise, brake noise, etc. Plenty of videos on youtube to get you enlightened.! :D

Hi, already got it and love it. Even use it with PMDG to get it a bit more "the way I want it". :)

Might want to consider the Wilco PIC Boeing 737-300/400/500 package (aka Classic 737). One of its really strong points is the flight model, including the ground handling. In my opinion, it does a superb job of portraying the landing and roll out phase of a classic 737 (good enough for you to really notice the difference when compared to a lot of other FSX aircraft), so it is certainly one of the best FSX aircraft in this respect. Of course it does not look as pretty as the CS and PMDG 737s in the cockpit, and it needs a few dirtied up paint jobs because the ones that come with it are far too clean, but as far as simulating a 737 goes, it is truly excellent.A2A's B-17G Flying Fortress also stands out as one which does an excellent ground handling simulation in addition to flying well, it even manages a convincing belly landing if you feel like seeing if you could pull that off. I don't know anyone that has bought the A2A B-17G who has not fallen in love with it, and rightly so. I happen to think it is the best FSX aircraft you can get, although when PMDG knock out their new 747, I suspect I might, just possibly, have to revise that opinion. Maybe. An older FSX add-on aircraft - the MAAM DC-3 - which was ported over to FSX, is also worthy of note in this respect. It is not quite as shiny as more recent FSX-native DCs, but it is certainly the one which does the best portrayal of a DC-3's ground handling.Al

Hi,thank you for your advice. I'd pass over the Wilco 737 since I'm looking for a new airplane to fly, and it would be too similar to the PMDG (and surely less comprehensive). As far as for the A2A ones I was really interested in the 377 rather than the B-17, altough a ride on the flying fortress would always be welcome. :) How is the 377 compared to the B-17 when it comes to ground and landing dynamics? I'd take it over the 17 because of the "captain of the ship" feature, which really draws my attention.

The A2A Stratocruiser is every bit as good as the B-17G. You won't be disappointed with it at all, you will be busy though, that thing certainly does not fly itself, although the Captain of the Ship add-on does make that complexity a managable and enjoyable experience. It is akin to having the PMDG 737 with the FS2Crew add-on.Al

Is there any way to find those photoreal panels ? cheers
I believe Ed does his own panels and does not make them available.

HiI have both and the B 377 is my favourite. Landing the beast is a real challenge but manageable with a little pratice. Be aware that it is a complex aircraft. Buy Cots because you can ask the flight engineer to help you with the system management if you need it. I think it is one of the best aircraft for FSX. You will not be disappointed.

If the 377 COTS interests you and you don't have it yet, I strongly urge you to get out from under your rock and purchase it! The NGX, the 377, and only a few others still keep my interests.

The best add-on aircraft that I've come across for what you're looking for (alongside the NGX) has been the Flight 1 Coolsky MD-80 Pro. :(

Also love the a2a Piper Cub.My favourite for realistic landings/handling is still the RealAir Duke Turbine. Even better now with Accufeel!Heavy metal wise I do like the QW 757. Good realistic handling for a FSX simulation.RegardsAdam
