March 26, 201214 yr Hi all,I am planning to get ORBX Cairns plus either AU-Green or all of Oz. (I have a particular interest in flights to and from Cairns, as I've done several of those in real life.) But I see that ORBX is tempting me with a discount on all of Oz. Anyone have opinions on AU-Green vs AU-All? I'm also interested in ORBX-Pacific Northwest, but sheesh, it all starts to add up. :) Anyone have any thoughts on Australia-Green vs Australia-all?Thanks!
March 26, 201214 yr I've got all of Australia. But I find myself flying in Blue and Gold mostly. Glad I've got Green for Cairns but further north there's not much to see. I visit Red the least...again not much variety for me beyond Alice Springs.John
March 26, 201214 yr It depends of course on how much money you wish to invest and what your particular flying interests are.I have them all....but I also live in the heart of the PNW. I love GA flying. So with that in mind I would invest in the PNW first, lots of airports on great short hop flights available. IMHO the best ground textures mirroring a real landscape. You do not need to buy any of the addon airports for this area, for which there are many and more coming, to have a great flying experience. One of the principle developers lives right here in the PNW and is probably the best scenery developer on the planet. He is currently working on other projects to extend this scenery. You can slowly add the others like, PFJ and CRM.There is a lot of "waste" land in Australia, sorry about that but its boring flying through the middle of nowhere. If you wish to choose Australia, start with Green, then Blue. And yes Cairns is a very good starting point I would support that decision as a good one.Sorry, I meant Gold not Green. March 26, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the suggestions! If anyone else has thoughts, feel free to chime in. :)
March 26, 201214 yr You can't go wrong with the bundle IMHO - it's a lot of country for just a handful of beans...Add in NZSI and the hopefully upcoming NZNI and you can, as I will, spend 99% of your time flying GA around the beautiful NZ and then taking heavier hops between the two countries and across the Australian continent in your NGX of choice! That said, fltsimguy ain't wrong about the PNW either - as he says, it has a ludicrous number of air strips and larger air ports for you to explore and the eye candy is pretty damn good. That said, as a pom in Auckland I am biased towards the Oceania stuff until such time as ORBX release UK scenery! Cheers! Iain
March 26, 201214 yr I got them all....Better bang for the buck. I also got all the freeware and payware airports for Australia as well. You can spend a lot of time exploring this place and lots of great freeware available from Ozx forums.Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
March 26, 201214 yr Author Thanks all. I'm going for all of Oz, plus Cairns. Maybe I'll post screenshots later. :)
March 26, 201214 yr I have the full Australia DVD box, but find myself only ever flying in AU Blue for reasons unknown.... in fact, I bought AU Red about 3 years ago and have flown in it once! ..... not because it isn't good; just because (i) there are few airports there and (ii) my imagination hasn't taken me there yet.I love the AU Blue area, especially flights from Victoria to Tasmania. :( David. >> i7 2600k, 3.4Ghz, (3.8Ghz TurboBoost), 8GB DDR3 RAM, ATI HD 5770 1GB, Win 7 Home Premium 64bit. >> FSX, REX, GEX, UTX, Orbx FTX AU, NZ, US, FlyTampa, UK2000 Xtreme, PMDG, RealAir, MilViz, (some) Carenado, Flight 1, Simcheck "%20alt=
March 27, 201214 yr Once you get one you will want them all so you made the right choice to go for the whole package. Signature best place to put my name Bruce

Kind of like a backpack tour in real world, you can only do one region at a time. AU Red has Perth and Alice Springs, they have a lot of additional airports in these areas now and some great exploring.Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

It's on my list to get back to Orbx Australia and to see more of it (especially AU Red). But there's so much to see and so little time! ..... At the moment, 90% of my flying is back in the UK as I have the photoscenery set up beautifully, and with Treescape autogen, it's just amazing.......I think we all tend to gravitate towards flying in the areas we know personally the most :(....... but Orbx OZ, I will be back! March 27, 201214 yr I would suggest you get Australia complete if possible as a few years ago i got AU Blue then later on realised how good it was and had my eye on more airports and needed the other regions to go with them and then had the regret that i had not just bought the whole of Australia to start with. I 've got the lot now though.Cheers. Kind Regards Simon.
March 27, 201214 yr Author I went for it and bought all of Australia. Glad I did! It looks great. First I took off from Cairns and circled around a bit. Nice ground detail! Then I flew to Lizard Island, a trip that took more than an hour. The reef looked great, except in spots the dividing line between turquoise water and regular water seemed too sharp; could this be some artifact of REX interacting with FTX? Then I buzzed Cooktown a bit. Then off to Alice Springs, which looked very nice, much as I remember it. Then Sydney at dusk; looked decent, but I had turned down some of my graphics options. Framerate was fine, so I'll want to try it again with higher settings. Finally I buzzed Darwin at night. Nice. :) I'd like to post screenshots, but I'm not sure what the posting guidelines are in this forum. Is it preferred that I start an album, or can I post a couple directly in this thread? How many shots per post or per day? How large can they be? Looked for a FAQ, couldn't find one. Thanks!
March 28, 201214 yr Good choice and make sure you check out the updates over at the Orbx website if you hav'nt done already. Kind Regards Simon.

Few shots here and there seems fine. There is a screenshot forum area however if you want to post tons.I'd be curious to see the water issue you mention. I'm looking into a water addon but not sure its worth it to me.
