April 2, 201214 yr Author If I understand correctly... you re-installed FS9 (why??) and ever since that point it has stuttered?Best regards,Robin.I decided I could not afford a new computer completely, but for a alot less, I can get a newer graphic card and CPU for my current system.I replaced my AGP Saphirre radeon X1950 Pro to a HIS Radeon HD4670 which has 1gig of DDR3 memory and a faster clock speed compated to the X1950 with has only 512MB of DDR3 memory and a slower clock speed. Then I replaced my 2ghz dual core CPU with a 3.06ghz dual core CPUwhen I did that I notice that the BIOS did not detect the curreny CPU, so I went here to see what BIOS update would be needed.http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=4CoreDual-SATA2&o=BIOSand installed the windows flash version 2.10 which indicatates a CPU code updatewhen I rebooted after the flash, the finally detected the correct CPU of a 3.06ghzwhen I tried my flight sim for the first time I noticed a huge increase in frames, which was what I expected, it was smooth for a bit, then the stutters kicked in.Like I have said, wtih my old video card and 2ghz CPU I did not ever get this stutters...my frames where not as high, but it was still stutter free flying. So I dont understand why this is happening when I have faster hardware. I did not update the bios on my mobo to the highest version since it seem like it did not need it. The CPU code was the one that got my attention. Thanks for the reply, I always fly in full screen mode, I cant stand windowed. April 2, 201214 yr Hello I may be clutching at straws here , but I wonder if you are suffering from a problem that I have called 'system interrupts' When I turn my PC on everything runs smoothly at first however after a few minutes system interrupts build to almost 100 percent (I use a Microsoft program (free) called Process explorer that actually displays this happening on a graph. ) This will effect all PC performance including FS9 performance if it happens to be running as well. My old solution (only one that worked for me anyway) was to keep an eye on Process explorer and wait ten to fifteen minutes after which interrupt activity dies away and all is fine with PC and FS9 again.(when interrupts are sixty to one hundred percent FS9 will stutter badly ,sound will be broken ,basically crapulous performance , unusable actually) I have since discovered (don't ask me why I tried this , why it works, or why i thought it would do anything anyway) that if I get my usual system interrupt problem on startup (ie every time i turn on my pc) if i run DXDIAG and then run the three 'DIRECT DRAW' tests ,that instantly corrects the issue for as long as the PC remains on for that session. Anyways some clues to look for are mouse lags, characters taking a second or so to display after you have typed them into a forum for instance ,sound brakes ups .stutters crackling. If you get anything like this it could be you are having this problem. If you think you are then download process explorer and watch its displays , after you turn on your PC position your mouse pointer over the red area and it should show interrupts as a percentage. I aint a technogulous chap ,but it will be obvious if you are having any interrupt problems and therefore FS performance problems as well. cheers Andy
April 2, 201214 yr Author Thanks Andy, will look into that. Im just curious to know why this was not an issue with the slower CPU and older video card and once I installed them and did nothing else other than flash bios, update videocard driver to the new card and install the cpu on the mobo, I get these stutters. I hope you get it sorted. It can be VERY frustrating when you get these problems ,and particularly difficult when everybody chips in (including myself of course )with all sorts of possible solutions ,even though we are all only trying to help. IF! your problem is to do with system interrupts at least that is easy to diagnose, and although a nuisance easy to control (if not yet solve completely in my case) Andy
April 2, 201214 yr Author Very true Andy, I just hope its not an issue of the mobo not liking the hardware. I have an older system than most out there. Still running AGP too. Do you think Fs9 does not like DirectX 10 since my card is capable of DirectX 10 and not 9.c which is what FS9 likes. April 2, 201214 yr Hey Bill, I understand your frustration, I was hoping my suggestions would have helped a little more. I am still in the dark ages, with a P4 3.2ghz, and an AGP Radeon 3850. It runs FS9 ok, and FSX depending on where I fly, its usable. With two kids and one more on the way, a new PC is not on the priority list, although I accept all donations...LOL 1. Can you return the card you have for an exchange? It's worth a try. 2. Update your Chipset drivers also. (http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=4CoreDual-SATA2&o=XP) 3. On your mainboard I believe you have on-board sound. Are you using that or another add-on card? Check the drivers, and settings (directx) for that device. Maybe dial down the acceleration in sound settings. I have been through this before and it took forever to update the drivers (chipset, display, monitor, sound). There is also a few things I had to do, in my BIOS after the moving to the newer Radeon card, I just have to go back through my notes. I'll check back in once I have that info. Your in the right place to get help, we'll get it sorted. J R (Jason R MYNN) General Aviation Nut FSEconomy Pilot
April 2, 201214 yr Author Hi Jay, I have a external creative sound card..don't remember the model on it. But will check the driver on it when I get home. April 2, 201214 yr By the way this list for your board is interesting I don't see the HD4670 on there as supported. BUT, then again that may not matter. http://www.asrock.com/mb/vga.asp?Model=4CoreDual-SATA2 J R (Jason R MYNN) General Aviation Nut FSEconomy Pilot

BUT, then again that may not matter. http://www.asrock.co...4CoreDual-SATA2 thats true, nor does my CPU of a 3.06ghz Wolfdale show as supported, however this is an older board and they might not have updated their information on the site. Other games on my PC work just fine, railworks 3, Fear 3, Farming Simulator 2011 Asus Tuf Gaming Plus B550 - Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Asus GeForce 4080 RTX OC Edition - 64GB DDR4 (3600Mhz) - EVGA 850W Power Supply - 2X 1 TB NVME PCIE gen 4 - Windows 11 (25H2)
April 4, 201214 yr Bill, Sorry i haven't had time to look-up my BIOS info, but something to try. What If you were to try the old card again, and see if you get the same behavior. Or have you tried that? Remember to remove the current drivers first then you'll need to reinstall for the old card. Also backup your fs9.cfg in your Windows profile and let a new cfg file get created, after putting in the old card. Strange that your other games are fine. That would seem to point to an FS9 specific issue. What that is, is................. Let us know. J R (Jason R MYNN) General Aviation Nut FSEconomy Pilot
April 4, 201214 yr Author Hi Jay, that is one thought that I was interested in doing too. When I get home I will play around with it and see what happens. If I get smooth flying with my older Radeon X1950 with a slower clock speed and half the memory of the new one...well, then its the card. April 9, 201214 yr Author I notice the stuttering goes away when I press shift w and the cockpit goes away. It's a very simple non complex cockpit. And frames are jumping all over the place too from 30 to 17 then 30 to 8. Even when turn on the side cockpit bitmaps I get stutter, but when I turn the bitmaps off, it's smooth. Seems like a cockpit view issue.
