Smooth flying but with a constant lag

Ok, finally got tired of the stutters that happens with so many tweaks that I tried on the new card. I uninstalled the drivers and installed the older Radeon X1950Pro that has less horse power than the HD4670 and half the memory, but the sim runs smooth with NO STUTTERS!!! Im at a lose. Could it be a faulty card? Im going to get the card replaced via newegg and will get back...this is a real bummer since I dont know why the old card makes the sim run better than the newer one.

Okay, here's a question that is probably silly but I have noticed over the past few weeks that my sim has started stuttering occasionally also. A few weeks back I remember thinking to myself that everything was working perfectly and it just couldn't get any better. BIG MISTAKE! LOL Has anyone else noticed a recent change even though they haven't changed hardware like Bill? I have tried every cfg tweak that I can find with no results and have started to wonder if I downloaded something that is causing a problem. I know it's a long shot but I just wondered?????

Cheers

Your problems started once you had replaced your CPU and graphics card. Before that everything ran fine on your PC. Correct?

I would therefore say that your problems lie not in any configuration of FS9.CFG but with your hardware.

Many times in the past I have upgraded just my graphics card and all I ever had to do was make sure that I had the latest drivers for the card. Your card could be faulty, though?

Also - and this is just an idea that nobody else seems to have suggested - is your new CPU compatable with your motherboard? Your mobo manual should tell you what CPUs it can handle. If so a BIOS upgrade may be necessary. Way back in the days of FS98 I bought a new mobo and had to do just that after which everything was fine.

I do hope you get your problem solved soon. I have been there myself, done it and got the T shirt so I can understand the frustration you are experiencing.

Hi David, i had issue when i installed the cpu and did not update the bios.. It ran slower and the frequency indicated was really off when the bios booted. it showed something in the ball park of 12ghz instead of 3.06ghz. Once I updated the BIOS to version 2.10 that indicates CPU code changes here:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=4CoreDual-SATA2&o=BIOS

On reboot it showed the correct frequency of 3.06ghz and games where flying.

The CPU that I got is not on the list, however who knows how old the list is:

Other games run smooth as ever with no hiccups ..and at the moment its running smoother ever with no hiccups with my old card. Hmmmm

Did you get your stutters figured out? I got my replacement video card today and will get back to you to see if card was the issue the whole time. Ive been using it just fine with my older X1950Pro and its smooth as ever.

Oh, OK. I just heard that it changes the FS9 cfg file. So, I thought it was the cause of your stutters.

No, but thanks for the thought. In fact I have tried every fs9.cfg trick in the book - from removing it and having the sim generate a brand new one to every fix I can find in the forums here. I am pretty sure it is either something that is running in the background that is hogging resources or it's a file I've downloaded at some point. So my next step is to do a reinstall of FS9 and see if it keeps happening with a clean install. I'm almost afraid to do that though as I know what will then result - weeks of trying to get the reinstall back up the standard my current on is.. sighhhhhhh

Something that might be worth bearing in mind is KARMA!,yes Sir! I see your eyes raised to the ceiling already, but bare with me , I have found that the FS experience can SEEM to be to some extent dependent on your mood at the time of flight.

I might fly one day, and seem to be plagued by excessive stuttery ,blurry ,laggy banky flight.

The next flight however the sim seems smooth ,clear and wondrous to behold ,AND I make a perfect landing to boot.

These two scenarios can often SEEM to coincide with good or bad mental states ,whether I am feeling stressed (War , pestilence ,horrid death, bills to pay and rain) OR feeling cheery , loved up with a song in my heart and warmth for my fellow man (this latter scenario is an increasingly rare state these days as old codgerhood and and increasingly age related grumpiness takes an ever firmer grip upon my life.

HOWEVER!

Joking aside ,I do find that my simming experience CAN sometimes seem to change ,dependent on my mood.

Reinstalls of FS in my experience usually mean mucho agro and not much else.

I can usually resolve an FS issue eventually ,sometimes I don't even no how I have done it (that fits into the weirdness and mysterieosity of FS category) ,but I have ,Haven't done a full reinstall in an attempt to sort issues for a years now.

Joking aside 2

I hope you get it sorted ,nothing worse than a grumpy, twitchy ,laggy sim.

Actually, I think I get what you're saying Andy. But in this case I think it's a bit more than just a mood thing. Sceneries and aircraft that a few weeks ago would not have caused a hiccupt are now having noticeable pauses. I will try lighting some sage and see if that helps clear out some of the negative energy in the room, but I have a feeling that finding a pesky file or something running in the background stealing resources is probably the real solution. But at this point anything, but anything, other than a fresh install would be worth trying...

To try and be a bit more helpful if I can.

Have you heard of a program called 'Process explorer' its a free MSoft utility .Now I am no tech expert, but PE may show a program or perhaps a system utility that's hogging your resources ,it will also show if you are having 'system interrupt problems' I have (and still do) had a long standing problem with interrupts and one side effect of these is a massive hit on FS9 and whole system performance.

So checking whether you are having issues with these may be worth trying.

One other suggestion I have is this ,recently I have had an issue with a CTD (actually not strictly speaking a CTD) and its the worst type I.E. totally random with nothing showing in Event viewer and no error message from FS9 either ,because the sim just freezes solid with a reboot the only solution. I may be tempting fate here but I fixed that problem by unin my Gcard drivers and then rein again ,but this time I used a driver sweeper program first, to remove ALL traces of previous drivers, and I don't no if it was doing that ,but the random lockup (seems ,fingers crossed)to have gone (I have had at least four medium length 800-1000 ml flights with no further trouble.

My point is (you probably know this anyway) but if you are unin and rein stuff from your setup in an attempt to solve your problem it REALLY does seem that removing ALL traces of drivers before rein again with a driver sweeper is a good idea (I am using the one that comes with the free utility from I-OBIT called 'Advanced System care'

PS I didn't mean to make light of your current sim situation with my previous post ,I know (as most long using and quite often suffering Sim users will also know) just how 'temperamental' and frustrating our old sim can sometimes be.

Cheers

No offense taken at all Andy - I truly did appreciate your original post. And the second one is helpful. I did recently install process explorer but it was a bit over my head and I never actually did use it. Perhaps I should try again and be a bit more persistent. The driver suggestion is an excellent one.

Thanks mate
