March 30, 201214 yr Hello! What speed to use when taxiing in real life, in a straight line, and when you turn 90 degrees? Thanks! Dmitriy Popov
March 30, 201214 yr I think the max taxi speed for a straight line is about 25 knots and for a turn 9 knots or less. Paul Deemer
March 30, 201214 yr In the NGX if your speed is often too high in turns (say above 15 kts GS) you will eventually get a tire pressure imbalance failure (or so I have heard ;-)) Christoph Kühne
March 30, 201214 yr Many airports will restrict your taxy speed. You need to look at the charts. EGLL is 15kts which is the norm for most airports. Also in a turn you should not do more than a fast walking pace otherwise there is a lot of sideways force on the gear and it's very uncomfortable for the passengers.vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA

March 30, 201214 yr If you check the FCTM it has some pages with tips on how to taxi properly, including which speeds to use. John-Alan Pascoe
March 30, 201214 yr What i use in all of the rw jets ive flown from heavies to lites is the RCR technique. 6=ice, 12=wet and 23 is dry. So i use these RCR condition numbers for my speed during these conditions. Since ive been flying gulfstreams, i tend to taxi some where in the 25kts range. In the dc-10 we entered turns at 6 to 8 kts. 6 to 8 kts has worked well for all the planes ive flown. Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/
March 30, 201214 yr 30knots MAXIMUM in a straight line, 15 around corners and usually around other aircraft.
March 30, 201214 yr In the real world most of the guys I fly with taxi 14-18 knots in a straight line. For me anything more than 20 knots seems pretty fast. The ride can get kind of rough at some airports. As far as turns go less than 10 knots is typical. Tom Landry
March 30, 201214 yr This is dictated by captain’s discretion, surface conditions and good old common sense! The appearance of a brisk walk will pass a line check for sure. 30 knots GS max on a straight, wide taxiway. 20 knots probably most conditions and slow enough around a turn to prevent the feel of excessive side loads.
