March 31, 201214 yr Btw - speaking of wind affecting the Maule on take-off, did you ever pull the trigger on those pedals you were looking at?I ordered the Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals TODAY! They should arrive the coming week. Most shops asked something like 190 - 200 euro's for it, which is quite something imho, so I was keeping an eye on various sites hoping I could find it cheaper, and todat I found a shop that sells it for 145 euro! That's er... cheap... well... it's cheaper then 200... :wink:I am really looking forward to this enhancement of my flying experience in MS Flight!!! Not only will it make things more realistic, but it will also enable me to disable the rudder-twist on my Logitech joystick: while that rudder-twist sometimes is handy, it's completely useless for precise rudder control, but what's more, you tend to give rudder unwanted when you have to keep pressure on the elevator or aileron.EDITWhile I am at it... Can I simply reassign the rudder control in MS Flight to the Saitek rudder pedals...? Or will those pedals show up as a seperate controller...? In that case I wonder how to disable the rudder on the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro...? I really, really need that one to be disabled when I have my pedals...! Anyone knows how this works?EDIT2Maybe I can simply remove the rudder entry for the Logitech in the standard.xml...? Or change the deadzone from 0.1 to 100...?
March 31, 201214 yr Assign it to the pedals and unassign it from the joystick. That's what I did and it works well. Of course, no toe brakes work in Flight, so don't change your braking assignments.
March 31, 201214 yr I ordered the Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals TODAY! They should arrive the coming week.Congrats, I am sure you will love having pedals!Really helps both with controlling and the immersion aspect.Be sure and let us know how you like them - when you get a little used to them...I have the older discontinued TM Elite rudder pedals, they have served me well over the years , especially since modding them with the Hall Sensor kit a few years ago. Only thing is they do not have toe brakes, and with all the other flight sims I have now I kind of wish I had them. I will just have to justify in my mind at some point whether I should upgrade, if I ever do. These Elite's work well with my TM Cougar, they plug into the joystick and I can adust the rudder axis from the Cougar software. Don B
April 1, 201214 yr and you will be surprised when you discover that you pay for a "complete plane" and got a plane without autopilot.. AND FOR THOSE who like to act like blind and keep saying "you must feel the plane and bla bla bla bla".. its not about "feel" the plane, its about receive what you paid for.so if you want a real simulator, don't expect ANYTHING from this GAME :) just an advicecheers.
April 1, 201214 yr Well, if you think about it, it's hard for the sim to figure out that the gauge is showing something that's acceptable to you, without your input :).Actually, you are absolutely right. I was too superficial in terms of flight simulation. If something was indeed wrong, i would have had to correct it and then let Flight know that everything was ok but also if everything is fine, i admit it does make more sense that i need to confirm that, rather to just expect the game to react on me moving my view over those instruments. So, you were spot on with your comment :)Cheers
April 1, 201214 yr This reminds me of that Kurt Vonnegut quote.“Those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand.”
April 1, 201214 yr Hi Folks even then there are some missions that cannot be flown at all even if you reduce the fuel load to zero! Bill - All jobs are flyable, though not nescessarily direct to destination, You might not be FAA legal, and in event of a crash, will likely invalidate your insurance. As Heimi & Eevun have indicated - The MTOW has a healthy safety margin. Set her up for a "Short Field Takeoff", and if nescessary add some extra flaps. Some jobs may also require an enroute refuelling. IIRC - The max job's cargo weight I'd seen was 984 lbs, (and also successfully completed). Has anyone seen higher ? IMO, the Maule has some kind of "bug", meaning the tail wheel gets stuck left or right. Ramon - It's not bugged, just susceptible to weather-vaning. i.e. HUD's wind indicator doesn't display below 5kts. re: Stuck Checklists - They're not actually stuck. Mouseover the active item, and you'll see it is changing, but maybe in 1 unit increments/decrements. i.e. it takes a longish time to set accordingly. There may also be a mismatch between some target RPM/in HG You can manually overide by grabbing & adjusting that particular control. re: Engine Sounds - From the VC sometimes they appear not to change noticeably/appropriately, but from an external camera, the audio reflects the change noticeably/correctly. April 1, 201214 yr You might not be FAA legal, and in event of a crash, will likely invalidate your insurance. That's not the worst of it, y'know. :D FAA ramp check: "Hey, we got another one who thinks he can take off with whatever he can fit through the doors. Wait... what is this... 984 pounds of CATS!?? That's 100 freakin' cats in there! Notify Bellview to have the padded room ready. This one's a few volts shy of a full charge. Cats. What'll they think of next?" Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
April 15, 201214 yr Anyone have an update on the turning left issue. I don't notice this in any other aircraft, only the Maule. I do not that if I follow the take off checklist, hold down the breaks, rev engine to 100% it's completely uncontrollable once I let the break off. If I slowly apply power I have better luck but it still pulls terribly to the left. Once the rear wheel is up it's not as bad, but I have to react quickly once I get the front wheels off the ground or the constant right steer to correct will plow the wing tip into the runway (assuming I am still on the runway and not off in the grass). I have tried taking off with and without a load, it doesn't seem to change much.
April 15, 201214 yr Hey Michael, Welcome to the forums! Are you using rudder pedals to control the rudder? If so, I would assume they are properly calibrated in the software for them? If not, what are you using for rudder control? I myself do not have a major issue taking off in the Maule, although with a decent crosswind it can make it a bit of a challenge. I can describe how I do it, this is with rudder pedals: I ease the throttle forward slowly, and gently giving it enough rudder to keep it tracked somewhat straight. I continue to ease the throttle forward until it eventually is at full throttle, all the time feeding just enough rudder in to keep it tracking as straight as I can. Once the tail wheel rises up and it really picks up more speed, I find I can ease slowly back off the rudder, until just prior to lifting off the runway my rudder for the most part is centered once again, or pretty darn close. Once those wheels leave the ground I make sure I let off those rudder pedals to insure it is centered. Now it did take me several takeoffs to pretty much get the hang of it - and again, with a decent crosswind it is still pretty difficult. Practice - practice - and more practice, will certainly help you become more proficient in this. When I first got the Maule, I absolutely hated the plane, my knickname for it was " when pigs fly". Now it is one of my favorites, after flying many jobs with it by the checklist. I hope this helps, and have fun! Don B
April 15, 201214 yr Practice - practice - and more practice, will certainly help you become more proficient in this. When I first got the Maule, I absolutely hated the plane, my knickname for it was " when pigs fly". Now it is one of my favorites, after flying many jobs with it by the checklist. I hope this helps, and have fun! Thanks for the tip, I think the practice part is the real answer to my problem. Sadly I am using the A D keys for rudder control, and there is not easing it a little left, your either all in or nothing. Tapping the key kicks it a little then it recenters. So I may try that a time or two and see if I can keep her on the pavement. I find the mouse much more sensitive than my old clunky joystick (admittedly a low end one, I don't do much flying). So I am hesitant to start investing in other gear when the mouse works so well. Thanks again, off to practice.
April 16, 201214 yr Do you have the Prop Effects box unticked in the settings? It might be good to check that box if you aren't using good rudder controls, since it's the propeller that pulls it to the left a lot of the time. If you get a bad crosswind on top of that staying on the runway is nigh impossible sometimes.
April 16, 201214 yr Yesterday, I had weather set for "Thunderstorms" and was set up for a "job" with 58 - 59 mph crosswinds. Impossible! John Wingold
April 16, 201214 yr I think that's a big bug. If you lower to the minimum the fuel and if you have 4 pax or a heavy cargo I feel correct that it is really hard to take off but what I consider to be a bug is the fact that the Maule abruptely turns left or right on the runway with no chance to correct this " beahaviour ". This happens also with no wind involved. This way each take off becomes a matter of luck and it is closer to a russian roulette. For the ones saying my controller is not calibrated I say that I use a mouse to fly.
April 16, 201214 yr I also don't use specific weather themes because they are simply impossible to fly in. I think I also tried Thunderstroms yesterday and as soon as I opened started moving I was pushed left even though I gave FULL rudder right. Utterly useless. Luckily I just LOVE the Low and threatening theme (and every now and then Dense fog). There is one theme with rain and bad weather that is flyable too though. They should have added more information to the weather themes, like average speeds...
