April 3, 201214 yr Moderator Nice shots but personally I would get rid of those harsh looking, overbaked REX clouds, and use something like the HDEv2 clouds that Ed uses for a more realistic look, they work in FSX as well. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

April 3, 201214 yr Moderator Overbaked, LOL. Yeah I see what you mean... They are pretty...special. I will check it out, thanks! Lol, overbaked might have been a strong word but it just happened to come to mind. As much as I like REX stuff, some or rather a lot of their clouds sets are just to harsh looking imho with the baked in shadows and moisture and it just looks un-natural in the sim. I never knew of the HDEv2, stuff until I saw it mentioned in some of Ed's screens and videos, but it looks a lot more like what you would see in real life. FEX has some nice cloud sets as well plus a cloud texture builder where you can design your own. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
April 3, 201214 yr Author Nice shots.Beautifull livery!! Thanks! I was quite impressed with this particular livery as I've tried many times as a repainter to perfect those wavy paint lines (and line them up on tail section). It's no easy undertaking. I´m using the HDEv2 clouds and I never missed REX or something else. Great shots Chase! Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
April 3, 201214 yr Author Dimi, It's just one of those things that you have to have a passion for as there's lots of patience, trial and error and frustration trying to get something flat (textures) to match up on a 3D surface exactly where you want them. I started back in FS2000, way before the DXT5 texture conversions and what not. I still have to reteach myself the dynamics of the texture conversions everytime I attempt a new repaint. I haven't looked in a while but I'm sure there are some very helpful manuals maybe in the painter's forum. I'm thinking of giving my hand a try at the NGX soon. I reccommend you download a trial of Adobe Photoshop or maybe pick up an older copy at a software resale shop since the old versions do just as well. In school I had access to it but not anymore so that's another issue for me currently. April 4, 201214 yr Thanks for the tips Chase. I might source out a few tutorials from here and youtube and see how I go!! Cheers. DIMITRI
