Duke puke

All looked fine on another beautiful departure out of my current favorite airport Bella Coola.

Then the oil temp warning lights lit up, I rushed to open the doors on both engines and reduce my airspeed. Saved the left but the right puked.. Feathered her, tried restarting... She's toast..

My destination was way to far out to trust one engine and the closest airport was 22 miles away.. Bella Coola where I just departed from.. Having absolutely ZERO experience in a engine out situation on a twin prop I failed miserably on my first approach and aborted.. Too much yaw and it was already windy down in this valley.. I opted for a high angle decent approach to keep engine power in the minimum to prevent excessive yaw.

Crossed the threshold at 120 and got her down left of center at 100 but down nonetheless smoothly without excessive speed. Having never had to do a engine out on a twin prop I'm pretty happy I got her down in one piece and was a fun and challenging experience.

Very Nice. Always have those doors open, especially during climb out. Make it part of your start up.

Yep, definitely will. The checklist only comments about using them during Max Climb which is 4,000FPM which I was no where near but I was also running the engines pretty hard which probably was a catalyst to it. Like you said, I'm just going to add them to my checklist for takeoff to be on the safe side..

Very neat! Thanks for sharing!

On a side note... The T Duke is one of the few planes that really does add safety with the addition of a second engine. Most twins lose up to 80% of their power with an engine loss. The T Duke is so over powered, the second engine is optional. LOL

The beers are on you Bill!
