Smooth as silk...

Featured Replies

This game is silky smooth on my PC with max settings. I've never experienced this in any previous FS incarnation and that smooth frame rate does indeed give better immersion of 3D and motion than any before. If only FSX could be that smooth for me. The aircraft included are super easy to fly, so much so its like sitting on a comfy couch with a trim wheel.

I don't have enough addon to judge sounds and flight dynamics though. After all, does anybody actually own the A5 yet?

That being said, Flight didn't last an hour on my PC before I got rid of it. LOL....FS9/FSX, I'm coming home.

Sacha.

Oh dear!

A shame you didn't have the energy to get past the first 45 minutes, and test the game properly, as it gets progressively better with later aircraft.

But thanks for sharing your brief insights. I expect you'll be back one day...

You'll come back running... that's for sure :-)

Yesterday I was talking to a group of fellow pilots at Lisbon airport, where I work (at the Portuguese MetOffice) and, since we all have shared the passion for flight simulation, FLIGHT rapidly turned into the main subject.

Curiously, we all have the exact same oppinion regarding the "special" sensation that FLIGHT brings to it's users, particularly those with RL flying experience on GA aircraft - it's unique in creating a very true to real sensation of being there, and, it brings us that special feel at ZERO investment in expensive add-ons + hundreds of painfull tweaking exrecise...

MSFS X and 9 are great when you add the top scenery and aircraft add-ons, but they still lack this sensation brought to us by FLIGHT.

For me it was, a really rewarding investment, and I look forward for Alaska and many other DLCs that I am sure will, with time, turn FLIGHT back to the reference for GA Flight Simulation!!!

P.S.: Having a great time with yet another simulation platform, rather different but immersive, smooth and truly amazing as well - VEHICLE SIMULATOR by Ilan Papini, a project that has emerged from HangSim, MicroFlight and Virtual Sailor...

Vehicle Simulator allows for the simulation of almost any land, water or air/space vehicle, physics models are asthounding, including Weather, etc... If you have children, or grown-ups at college, it can also turn into a very good educational platform!!!

Jcomm,

Opinion shared.

Jcomm, so well put. My thoughts exactly. I have a lot of add-ons for FSX. I put a lot of $$ into it with mega scenery, Rex2.0, Captain sim aircraft, and even one of my fav. planes to fly - the Quest Kodiak. Yet, in it all, FSX just leaves me thirsty still. MS Flight - now there I see so much potential - I feel really like I'm flying (I used to train to be a missionary/bush pilot) - The "As Real As It Gets" with FSX just wasn't that, for me. MS Flight is far closer to that motto. Just flying in IFR conditions alone achieves that realism. When I flew IFR with FSX and FS9 I never felt disoriented visually, even with REX 2. However with MS Flight (and we are talking about the base/default product) - It's right on target, visually. Sure certain clouds can be enhanced, but I see the base rendering engine as fantastic!! The detail that is in the default MS Flight is just outstanding! That alone makes me leap from FSX with all my add-ons to MS Flight and stay there. I have all the planes except the P-51. I love the Zero. I'll get the P-51 and others even without the pits. MS Flight, for me, has nailed it. Honestly, I see it only getting better and better, that's just my opinion of course. Also, I just completed a cross-country trip with at least 15 other pilots from Lanai to Kauai. I had NEVER done that before with any previous simulation. I have tried to do MP in FSX but it just was a real pain to connect to any kind of friends, let alone a huge group - it was SO EASY in MS Flight and the Live! system. The communications within MS Flight are outstanding! And to fill in the gap for missing ATC I just listen to ATClive.net. Bring on ALASKA! yay!

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings..." High Flight by John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

I just landed from a flight and my ears popped.

Yeah, I know, it was probably just a coincidence.

Probably.

I'm no real life pilot but +1 on that special sensation. Flight is so much more immersive... I've said it time and time again and will probably say it a few times more but Flight is constantly giving me WOW-effects. Not a day passes that I am not impressed by what I see. Yesterday it was the fog (or should I call that haze) again:

and I am sure today something else will WOW me again.

I agree with jcomm but the only thing I really hate is planes without VC. It just kills the simulation.

If some people enjoy flying the plane in external view that's ok. But at least give the rest of us a decent VC.

So do what I do. Don't buy them. They seem to be quite popular, however.

I myself do not bother with any of the planes without VC.

The major problem here is. No VC means no simulation. No simulation, no Flight.

Since the first simulators came out during the 1980s there has always been a cockpit. If no cockpit, then why call it Flight?. Even HAWX has cockpits.

I think they are making history to become the first simulation that simulates planes without a cockpit and that doesn't make any sense at all.

So we going are backwards now?...

Flight only has two planes right now without a cockpit and those are two warbirds, the P-51 and the Zero. I am quite surprised at how many people are downloading these two planes despite the gripes and complaints to the contrary.

Personally, I have the Zero and love it. I don't use it to do any IFR work obviously. I have the RV-6 and the Maule for that. I fly the Zero purely for the fun of it, as do all those who own and fly it.

The Maule, Stearman, RV-6 and even the Icon have exceptional cockpits that are really detailed and functional (though just like many FSX planes there are some functions that are disabled [autopilot])'

What a lot of people are seemingly misunderstanding is that MS Flight is being opened to a much broader group of people - that will continue the legacy of Flight Simulation even further. Flight has a light side of it - the fun and pure joy of flying a plane through rich scenery.

Flight also has a very solid "heavy" side to it - that IFR instrumentation and IFR weather, which, is so much better than default FSX and previous FS.

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings..." High Flight by John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

Those early simulators didn't have a cockpit. They had a fixed 2D panel. Complaining about Basic aircraft in the Flight forum is like someone going to the FSX forum and complaining about all the airliners. And the answers are pretty much the same. Don't like it? Then don't buy it. Both people who are complaining are in the minority.

You must really like Flight if you're still here.

I downloaded the Zero too and it lasted for 30 mins. I can't enjoy a plane where the only thing I can do is just look it from external view and that'll all.

The problem here is, if that trend continues. MS will kill the little simulation that still remains in Flight.

I have played simulation since the spectrum and can't remember of any simulator without a cockpit. This is simply against common sense.

It did have cockpit, not a 3d one at least they did it.

Trying to say it's a good idea is non sense.

Oh so there is no room to complain then?

Free mind, young attitude.

Also, as a side note.

A real private pilot really would be flying perhaps 1-2 maybe 3 planes and be an expert on those aircraft. To have literally hundreds and try to be expert on every one of those aircraft is just not...real...is it?

I like the idea that we are given a few at a time. There was a time I was just going hog-wild to collect every single plane I imagined to have. I was a jack of all trades and a master of none.

It is indeed good to have a wide variety of aircraft to fly and Flight will indeed take us there. But to hoard hundreds of aircraft that no one in reality really becomes expert at flying is very unrealistic.

Simulators in real life focus on just one aircraft. A real KC-135 simulator doesn't double as a B-52 simulator. A real 747-800 simulator doesn't double as an F-18 simulator.

So to take the term simulation very literally - a good solid simulator, even FSX and X-plane don't seem to fall into the category of "As Real As it Gets" of a real simulator, they are just personal facsimiles on a micro scale (your desktop).

Flight makes no such claims. It's at least an honest approach to make flying enjoyable as well as educational for both casual pilots and literal, hard-core simulator pilots.

Let's cut Flight some slack shall we? And just enjoy what technology is coming our way now. No one is forcing anyone to purchase planes or Flight. It's free to try base is a great way to test the waters. If you don't like it, move on. If you do, dive deeper and Flight will deepen as time goes on.

:Peace:
