I've spent the last few days reinstalling W7 and consequently, FSX as well. I plodded on through the installation of about $750,000 worth of add-ons and finally I was ready to join my buddies online again. We met at Swanson and the scenery looked superb. So we set of to Strom (39P) and I thought the scenery looks...not right. Arriving at Strom, (not Storm B) ) imagine my horror to have to land in a TRENCH!

Dagnabbit! So I went through the rigmarole of faffing with FTX Central, uninstalling GEX and so on.

Now, if you promise to keep this to yourselves, I'll let you into a secret. In order to sort out PNW graphics problems....First, bloody well install it!

Frankly, I blame it on Orbx. There really should be signposts that read 'You are now leaving Orbx scenery', it would have saved me a shedload of angst.

Your a brave man Ron, reinstalling windows and fsx, that would take me at least a week of 24 hr days. I prefer to maintain an image of my entire setup backed up on separate drives, what has taken be four or five years to attain would be too much to loose to start over again.

Me too have an image cloned for my current computor..

just to think i have to re-install Windows and FSX + addons is the only reason I refuse to buy a new rig... but I know eventually I will have to bite the bullet as i can see my machine is clearly getting outdated..

I'm afraid Ron is NOT alone in this "issue". I recently purchased a new rig, and consequently had to reinstall everything. My first problem was the fact that something happened to my backup drive and I lost the lot. After a month of re-downloading everything, (and even purchasing FTX AU 4.0, when I didn't need to because I had 3.0 on DVD) I finally got around to installing everything.

I thought I had done a pretty good job, and in double quick time really. It only took a couple of days :)

Yesterday myself and a buddy were flying the rockies. We started in the northern rockies, and flew into the central rockies. Both of us commenting on the new found performance of our new rigs. Landing at our first airport in the central rockies, it was obvious something was most definitely wrong. My buildings seemed like default buildings, but I was happy with the scenery for the last few miles. It turned out that central rockies wasn't even installed. I found this out by checking FTX central installed list. The reason it wasn't installed, as it turns out, is because I couldn't find the email with the reg codes, and put it off until I could get the codes from the FSS.

So Ron, you're not alone, it's easy to forget to install something, and I have no doubt in my mind that I've bought stuff in the passed that I no longer remember buying, and don't have installed anymore :)

Funny you should pop up like this Tony. Are you going to go to the North Weald Fly in on June 9th/10th? If so, maybe we could meet up. You'll easily recognise me, I'll be wearing a red bandanna with 'Nobody' written on it. Just%20Kidding.gif

Ron,

All I can say you must have stayed up several days and nights to reinstall both W7 and FSX. To me that is a Simmer's nightmare. I thought I was headed in that direction last week when FSX started crashing on start up for no reason at all. Thanks to the folks at Avsim after two days of trying all kinds of things we finally got it up and going. I couldn't even sleep at night thinking about what I was going to try and do next. I just knew I was heading for a reinstall of either W7 or FSX or both. I was pretty hard to live during that time especially with the wife. It would have taken me weeks if I have to reinstall and make it like it use to be.

Glad you got it all up and running. (shame on Orbx for not putting out "sign posts for ya.

Regards and happy flying,

Carl

Mmmm That's a thought. Didn't know it was on. Definitely might be a possibility, I'll have to charge some batteries for my camera then lol.

I'm giving thought to putting in an ssd strictly for fsx and the prospect of starting over with fsx is a little daunting. Got to get a plan together. Are there any articles on the best way to go about this? Thanks.

Where would I have put the comma for it not to be sarcasm? Or whimsy, humour or jesting, as I prefer to call it.
