I read this and actually had a bit of a smile until I realized they were serious!http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/no...04/jets0421.htmya, this is just what our hobby needs is PR like this crap. And Quantas out of all of 'em. This is the airline that actually worked with us to help try to get the 'Dreaming' liveries available from Peter Max!

"...the name JetStar' used in conjunction with the airline industry was an already legally trademarked brand by JetStar International Airlines..."What's the joke?

Just because they "hepled" doesn't make it okay for Qantas to do what they did. Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot... To avoid legal hassles with REAL airlines, those of us who run VA's not based on r/w airlines, go to great lengths to ensure that we don't tread on a r/w carrier's copyrights, and then copyright our OWN 'brand' and logos, etc. The r/w guys seem to think that since they have more resources ($$$$) at their disposal, that any fight put up by a mere VA wouldn't amount to much.I know how hard Gene has worked to build JetStar, and get it where they are today. It's too bad that Qantas has chosen to ignore them, and seems to think that it's okay to use a copyrighted name, similar logo and livery. Knowing first hand the time and resources it take to run a first class VA, I certainly have to side with Gene on this issue.

For a livery to be concluded to be similar, wouldn't there have to be a picture of it somewhere? :-hah

Based on the color scheme of silver, black and orange (and the logo) it looks to be very similar - too similar in fact :)

i dont see the problem Quantes should have been more careful if the trademark and name is registerd....Id be upset as well ..

Just my two cents but did anyone else notice that the real world company is Jetstar Airways and the virtual company is Jetstar Airlines:-)I seem to remember flying into real world airports and being directed to Jetstar Aviation parking.....I know....it all gets a bit confusing;-)

i was under the impression he is sueing because 100 ot thousands of people are emailing him for tickets and its causeing him a huge amount of bandwith and money to handle it.And wishes to be reimbused for all the costs that amounts to...

I don't want to comment too heavily in this (not aware of the whole story). I do find it rather odd that with all the marketing people employed by an airline, not one of them bothered to type in their airline name into google and do a simple search. When I searched now, the va website came up right away along with the Quantas version. Perhaps they were aware, and just didn't care? It seems odd, as you would think that Quantas would not want interested customers going to the wrong website.

Folks If you are going to make statements please get it right, it is Qantas and is an acronym not a word so leave out the U after the QAcronym meaning:A word formed from the initial letters of a name, such as WAC for Women's Army Corps, or by combining initial letters or parts of a series of words, such as radar for radio detecting and ranging.cheersDave

I support Jetstar. I think they have a legit case for reimbursement at the very least. Intellectual rights are very important, but losing money over increased banwidth is not something a member of our hobby should have to do, especially if Qantas didn't take the time to check Google! If Qantas wants the intellectual rights to the name Jetstar in conjunction with AIRLNE, they should have to pay for it, and pay well. This VA clearly defined themselves and their logo in a unique way so as not to interfere with real-world airlines. You can't ignore how similar the liveries are. Airlines or Airways--I think it's odd that Qantas wouldn't initialy go with "airlines," which leads me to believe that they did know about Jetstar VA and changed their name accordingly. I LOVE Qantas, it's an awesome airline, but I think it's obvious that by not returning Jetstar VA's correspondence that they are going to try and muscle them out. This should not happen to a well established and incredibly well run VA. As members of the community, I think we owe it to Jetstar VA to support them 100%.just my 2p

I dont think its really a given that Qantas would loose a copyright battle over this issue. Sure they have not conducted themselfs too well in this case, but with a difference in the "Airlines/Airways" name, would it really be possible to make the case of a copyright infringment? Plenty of airlines in the world have similar names only with slight different name - Air Nippon/All Nippon springs to mind.Furthermore, call me blind but I dont see the 2 logo's beeing all THAT similar - sure the star looks a bit like it but typeface and colourscheme is quite different - that ugly orange sure leaves a mark on one's memory i'd say :DI think its true what was said, that Qantas did have prior knowledge about the VA site since they chose a different name variation - afterall Qantas itself is 'Airways' - also they went nuts with the quite different colours. I am not too sure you can sue someone for using a silver colour though.

If it were me and I owned the JetStar VA website, I would start selling tickets to those that asked for them. Sell them at a higher price and then keep the difference....:)When life give you lemons... give em' back....

Really now, the least Qantas can do is pick up the poor guys hosting costs. Thats round off error to them.Time to start advertizing OTHER airlines on his site that fly the same route to take business away. Perhaps the other airlines will pay him for advertizing :-lol
