April 23, 201214 yr I've been using System Mechanic for years and think that it's a great program. However, I've fallen victim to the registry issue that makes it impossible to initialize the voice version of FS2Crew. There is just no way I want to go to the trouble of reinstalling Windows and I have no interest in using the button version of the program so I'm out of luck. I have not contacted the System Mechanic folks yet and have little hope of them solving the probem anyway. I was wondering if any of you that have run into this problem have spoken to iolo and if so, have they acknowleged the issue? I'm a bit discouraged and am hoping that somebody comes up with a solution other than a complete Windows reinstall. I'm using Windows 7 64....Thanks Steve Giblin
April 24, 201214 yr i doint normaly reply but i have had alot of experiance with this problem. if this just happend you can go back in system machanic and restor the registry.for some reason in window restor you have to do it from there as window restor does not work. it took me about 10 reloads to figger this out but brian said some thing in a post and now i will not use system mechanic again. sry for for my typos this is wy i doing post much lol
April 24, 201214 yr Commercial Member Other than a restore, there's not much you can do other than re-installing. 'System Mechanic' damages SAPI; it affects all voice control programs that use SAPI, not just FS2Crew. B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord
April 24, 201214 yr Is it possible that the MS Fixit utility could sort it. This replaced the Windows Install and Cleanup Utility which was 'retired' as it made a hash of some MS Office installations. I have used this (and its predecessor) for years and it has got me out of some sticky situations. CAVEAT - I merely make the suggestion - use at your own risk. William Hall
April 24, 201214 yr I have corresponded with IOLO for some time as I had this problem with them since changing to W7x64bit. They are very lapse at responding sadly and have suggested some things to do that didn't have any effect really as there program does change registry problems on a regular basis. Their last attempt was to send me a url for the latest revision and, of course, you guessed it, no fix! It is a good program and I have not had any computer problems that previously meant calling out expensive computer experts to fix. System Mechanic has eliminated this now and I'm not prepared to follow Bryan York's advice to format my drive to run FS2crew voice. To go back to XP would be like travelling back in time, even though I had just managed to fully understand it. Other than a restore, there's not much you can do other than re-installing. 'System Mechanic' damages SAPI; it affects all voice control programs that use SAPI, not just FS2Crew. Correct me if I am wrong here Bryan but it doesen't damage W7 Voice recognition so why does FS2Crew use Sapi? Dave Taylor

FS2Crew, along with my many other "Voice Control" programs, like Vox ATC, etc, uses the Microsoft Speech Recognition API (SAPI) for Voice Control. System Mechanic does something that breaks 3rd party integration with SAPI. I've experienced this issue on at least 10 different occasions with 'System Mechanic' users. Users will have everything working perfectly.... then they'll run System Mechanic... and boom, voice control stops working. B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord

April 24, 201214 yr Author This is the only issue that I have ever had using System Mechanic. It seems to me that if it is a registry issue it should be reasonably easy to fix if one understands the registry entries that make SAPI work. The problem of course is getting Iolo to acknowledge that there is a problem. As for me doing a system restore it's hopeless. I've been using System Mechanic for years so I'd have to restore from 2 computers ago...I guess I'll try to contact them but I have little hope that they will do anything. Steve Giblin
April 25, 201214 yr And I'm using the system mechanic while I write this message, so I knew my voice recognition is working so why does the program not follow the same Message, Dave Taylor

April 25, 201214 yr Well, there IS more to life than flight simming Richard. I can understand you don't appreciate my post relative to the words "some people keep saying...and so..." I would have liked you to express yourself in a clearer way; If this is the case, I offer my sincere apologies to the "people". I recognize that my post was poorly worded. I still say that a program (if proven) that requires to reinstall Windows have a serious problem and is not great, sorry if you don't agree with that ! About my life, regarding your comment, thank you, everything is fine on my side.... I hope it goes the same for you ! April 25, 201214 yr Author Just submitted my first support ticket to Iolo. There must be a solution to this problem that does not include a complete reinstall of windows. I'll keep you posted on what they say. I must say I'm not overly optimistic. Steve Giblin
April 26, 201214 yr They will offer you a solution to exempt FS2Crew.. Carrying it out solves nothing! When you reboot system mechanic, it will aotomatically replace the exemption. Alll they do now is offer you to download the latest version with no positive answers to the problem. The banging your head against the wall because it feels so bloody marvellous when you stop phrase comes to mind. I have now given their support (if you can call it that!) this url. Let's now hope they can give some credence to this! before they lose any more customers. Dave Taylor
April 26, 201214 yr Commercial Member Dave, As mentioned, your only real option probably is to re-install Windows and not use System Mechanic again. It's not just FS2Crew that's affected, it's all 3rd party programs that use Microsoft Speech Recognition, like Vox ATC, IYP, and the whole lot of us. B.
