How far can my PMDG 737-800 go?

Featured Replies

Guys

I would like to fly my 737-800 transatlantic as I am running out of european routes to fly. I love the PMDG and would like to try some longer flights. I appreciate it depends on PAX load/Fuel etc however I would like some advice if possible?

Regards

Marsh

I think there are some European airlines that fly delivery flights from Boeing Field to their home country with two pilots, no passengers/cargo, and tanks full to the brim.

However the max. range for the -800 is about 2800 nm if I remember correctly.

About 3,000 miles depending on payload and winds, so you should be able to make it from London (EGLL) to Gander (CYQX) with a decent reserve, since it is about 2,350 miles. Going the other way, try landing at Shannon in Ireland (EINN).

You can make the US west coast to Hawaii easily too - bunch of US airlines (Alaska, America, United etc) do this with ETOPS equipped 800 and 900s.

Yeah. United operates daily flights to Honolulu from KSFO and KLAX using 737s. They also use 777, 757s, and 767s on that route. I wish Southwest did too.

Anyway, to go with this topic, did anyone know that Sun Country Airlines operates flights from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Gatwick on 737-700??? It's a seasonal route, of course.

It's an ER I presume :D.

Personally I have flown the 800 from KBFI to ENGM nonstop as a simulated delivery flight for Norwegian Air Shuttle. No pax and with favourable winds. Gets awfully boring in the "middle" though ;-)

I don't think so, a non-ER can still do that route.

The Sun Country flight stops in Canada, not sure where. Gandor, Halifax or St. Johns its one of the three to fill up. It is a 737-800 I think.

To the OP you can certainly do something with a stop in Canda or maybe Bermuda? Iceland-NYC should be in the range. I have flown with the 737-700 Miami-Azore islands and back with no problem. But of course the 700 has a bit more range.

Steven Herzberg,

Alaska Airlines does ANC to OGG (and HNL) seasonally as well.

They also have KSEA-KEWR, which must be the most boring flight ever... You cross the entire United States. KSEA-KMIA also sounds boring, as well as KSEA-MMSD.

I think watching the Pacific go by for hours is more boring than scenery you really can't see at 380.

A few months ago, I easily did JFK to Heathrow in the PMDG 737-600 fully fueled with a very light load, simulating a VIP transport. Made it with plenty of fuel to spare. As someone above said, the part between Gander and Shannon gets a little dull for about four hours.

My suggestion:

Get a BBJ livery, take a globe, spin it and place your finger on it: that will be your destination. If it's on the other side of the world, get ready for some fun legs.

I wanted to do this last summer but I ran out time.
