June 21, 201213 yr I don't necessarily disagree with Egbert. There are a couple of minor rough edges in the 146 that will probably be addressed in the upcoming patch whereas iFly 737 is a completely mature package. But it's really a matter of comparing oranges to apples. I don't think anyone can really make a fair comparison as they are very different aircraft using very different technology. As FS9 models they have both raised the bar to what might have seemed unattainable levels and set new standards for FS9 payware. I wouldn't be without either of them!!! Add the LevelD with the new Zinnertech VC and the incomparable DF 727 and my collection of the must-have FS9 jet airliners is complete! Cheers Ian Cheers Ian
June 21, 201213 yr All initial releases get a major SP1 .. even with all the pre sales beta testing. It takes months, if not years, to find all the bugs (and obvious stuff initially just missed somehow) in all the possible PC / hardware / software combinations. Without the PT Tu-154M no FS9 installation is complete Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
June 21, 201213 yr I too have drifted away from the 146 back to the iFly 737 until they do something about the loss of power to the MCP and the comms panel when the engines are off. As I use PFE I need to tune the radios and having to start an engine at the gate to get power flowing was getting annoying. I also miss provision of TOPCAT support which makes planning a flight in the 737 a doddle. I have a fair amount of runway 'anxiety' in the 146 due to the crapshoot nature of selecting an assumed temperature for takeoff! That all said, the package as a whole is up there as an FS9 classic.
June 21, 201213 yr I beg to differ. Without the PT Tu-154M no FS9 installation is complete I'm sure you're right Gavin! I have seen screen shots and it looks amazing... But my experience of trying to fly Russian aircraft in the past was not encouraging. I'm just too lazy or set in my ways or whatever to invest the time learning the different style of instrumentation and systems. I admire Russian aircraft designers - past and present. They have produced some of the most innovative and successful aircraft in aviation history. But having learned to fly using British and American style instruments and systems, I just wasn't sure that I was up for the challenge of learning to handle the TU-154... But if I had, I'm sure it would have been on my list! :good:

I haven't had a problem with any loss of electrical power between setting up the avionics and MCP and start up - the APU seems to do the job as advertized... I enjoyed your comment about "runway anxiety." But to me that is actually something of a plus. One of the things the driver has to do is be ready to over-ride automated systems when his or her instincts tell them things are not going according to plan. I did an ARJ flight out of LOWI yesterday and when I realized I was running out of runway without reachng Vr had to quickly disengage autothrottle and go to full power. It wasn't pretty and I'm sure the pax in the back decided to make the return journey by car, but it was kind of fun to have to make a command decision and pull it off. (At least I think I did - the wheels might have left a rut in the grass but it was close enough) To me it's not a matter of either iFly 737 or QW 146 but both. They are very different animals and require different techniques and skill sets and deliver a very different kind of experience. I think we are all in agreement that the QW 146 belongs among the FS9 classics - and as it has not yet reached its full potential as a package the best is yet to come Cheers Ian
