May 21, 201214 yr This video just came up on Youtube. It is very similar to the recent JetBlue incident. He taxis back and runs the engines up on the chevrons. I thought this wasn't allowed to start on the chevrons but it seems to be standard practice at this airport. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
May 21, 201214 yr That's because these guys are the Cowboys of the Caribbean. When I was there a few years ago they were always flying low and taxiing into the chevrons. All the other carriers were taxiing on to the runway. Chris Miller
May 21, 201214 yr Author That was what I figured. You'd think after all the bad press from JetBlue that they would have at least put up a NOTAM about doing that. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
May 21, 201214 yr I believe they built a new fence? i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
May 21, 201214 yr I believe they built a new fence? No I have a friend that was just there and he said they just have security that warns people and then walks away. It's the Caribbean no one cares down there. Chris Miller
May 21, 201214 yr Those people on the beach are just ignorant, and don't really know the dangers. May 21, 201214 yr They might or might not be idiots on the beach, but either it shouldn't be a public beach, or a deflector wall should be built just beyond the fence. The situation as it stands is absurd and dangerous.
May 21, 201214 yr Author No I have a friend that was just there and he said they just have security that warns people and then walks away. It's the Caribbean no one cares down there. And that is the way it should be. We all live in a Nanny State in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Europe....etc. With silly rules and regulations and by-law officers that drive us nuts. When I go on vacation to the Caribean I want to do whatever I want without the Nanny State watching over me. I am on Vacation so leave me alone. (but I still wouldn't stand in front of the Jet Wash) Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

I just moved to Hawaii and it is ridiculousness here. Everything is required to be registered, even bicycles as motor vehicles! I can't imagine how people lived in Communist nations with every aspect of their life being controlled! Chris Miller
May 21, 201214 yr Its not the nanny state, its lawyers. May 22, 201214 yr In Hawaii the one nice thing is it is an 'At Fault State' so insurance is amazingly cheap. I was paying nearly double in Washington for the same car. Chris Miller
May 22, 201214 yr Thanks for sharing that. They are all plugging their ears! There's been injuries from people standing in that area. Happy Flying, Clem Wu Beta Tester for OZx, Iris Simulations and Shade.

When I go on vacation to the Caribean I want to do whatever I want without the Nanny State watching over me. I am on Vacation so leave me alone. (but I still wouldn't stand in front of the Jet Wash) Cheers I have to say that I honestly can't understand how the construction of a jet-wash deflector could be construed as nanny-state interference with people's freedom, any more than the existence of a fence to stop people from wandering onto the runway itself is, or the practice of putting guards on dangerous machinery is. If this is, in fact, a public beach, then people have the right (as in freedom) to be there without fear of being blasted into the sea by jet engines going to TOGA thrust at the runway chevrons. Which rights have priority? Those of people on the beach not to be blown around like leaves in a gale, or the rights of aircrew to blithely ignore public safety when powering up?
May 22, 201214 yr Stupid on both counts, but as BIGSKY says they are probably ignorant to the dangers - in their defence the vast majority of the public have no interest in aviation whatsoever and no idea how powerful jet blast is. Something serious will happen (serious or fatal injury) and that whole beach will be closed for good. Presumably the heavies that go out of there don't need to taxi onto the chevrons?
May 22, 201214 yr "..the vast majority of the public have no interest in aviation whatsoever and no idea how powerful jet blast is." Quite true, and something that should be taken into account when pointing & laughing at the situation. "Something serious will happen (serious or fatal injury) and that whole beach will be closed for good." ..probably following on from an expensive lawsuit and heavy damages paid.
