This may be a stupid question but does anyone know if it will be all of Alaska? How about in the Juno area with Canada not to far away. How much of Canada will be modeled or does everything just end? Kind of like X-Plane has water were you don't have the scenery loaded. I wondow how much of the Aleutian Islands will be there or even Kodiak Island.

 

I just want to add that according to the Atlas Aviation web site there are 600 published airstrips and over 3000 others. How many will be modeled? How many does FSX have? I've never flown in Alaska in any of the flight sims so I don't really known how many strips are modeled or how much terrain.

All we really know for sure is that the Alaska DLC will include "over 1.5 million square kilometers (~600,000 square miles) of captivating scenery, new aircraft and additional missions!"

Alaska has a land-area of about 586,000 square miles, so it's looking like we get the whole thing. Possibly not all of the Aleutians, though... if they are including water-area in the area number they provided. We'll see.

We don't know exactly what the bordering Canadian territory will look like, but it will probably resemble the other Hawaiian islands for those who don't buy the Hawaii expansion pack.

BTW This also clearly proves MS has been working on Alaska for quite some time and that it's not something they simply and quickly did after the release of Flight... The trailer was from January and this shot looks pretty fine alright, so... they must have been working on it in 2011 already.

 

And this also (sort of) proves that MS is currently working on at least one other scenery... otherwise they would never tell us to expect three or four of them a year! And that again proves there might as well be some 50 people working hard on Flight as we speak. (This in reference to some remarks made in the Stepping stone topic.)

You should get trackIR EastCoastGuy....it's fantastic but of course a bit costly. After using it for a while, I find that when I don't have it available I feel like I am wearing a neck brace in-game that prevents me from turning my head.

I got Track IR years ago and after awhile just stopped using it. I found it to be annoying after awhile and preferred just using the hat switch on my yoke. . YMMV

 

I always felt I needed a neck brace just to use it. I found it very fatiguing having to sit the same way and limiting movement least I change the view. It's a nice idea but I just can't handle it. Then again that was the first version so maybe it's different now but I don't want to spend the money to find out.

I had the same experience and just stopped using it.

I've had it for a few years and rarely used it but that was because I only flew airliners in fs9/x.

TrackIR is really best suited to GA flying as far as I'm concerned, where there is very little button pressing or knob twisting and being lower and slower, there is much more to see.

It will be perfect for Flight :)

It's clearly a YMMV thing indeed because I loved the TrackIR in the PMDG 737NGX...! it has to be said though that I think 98% of the TrackIR buyers are happy with their purchase. The people who can't get used to it or simply don't like it are a minority. Most people who get it are blown away by it and refuse to fly without it.

 

(I don't mean to say this as in 'You are wrong and I am right', but it's just a fact. )

Note that if you buy TrackIR directly from the company, they offer a 30-day return period for a full refund if you don't like it.

 

And I have to wonder if they are getting a small spike in sales this week.

 

If Flight had supported TrackIR out the gate, little would have been said about it, with the people who have it continuing to use it and those who had not discovered it remaining unaware. Now, with all the talk, it seems a lot of interest in head-tracking has been created.

 

It's been a pretty good bit of free advertising for NaturalPoint.

In FSX I enjoy using Trackir in conjunction with EzDok. You can set some of the EzDok cameras to automatically bypass Trackir when you switch to them using a switch on your joystick. For example, you can set up a VC camera to zoom in on a certain area of your panel, and remain completely still in that view, with no Trackir movement or head shake, until you go back to your forward "regular" Trackir view. So, using the two together, it's a good setup even for complex airliners.
