MS announces update to Flight

Featured Replies

own a TrackIR 4: the difference between 4 and 5 isn't big enough to spend that much money one

You are correct Jeroen, I upgraded from the 4 to 5 only because I am a big fan and wanted the latest - has a little wider fov and increased resolution, other than that it is not that much a difference - some would probably not even notice the difference.

Just more icing on a delicious cake i am already enjoying

The greatest thing about the news is that there IS news! MS is clearly actually working on Flight! And they promised to do so for years to come. I am looking forward to that! Compared to the two patches we got for FSX (both actually patches and nothing more) in about one year, seeing all these updates and upgrades and fixes after just a few months is very, very nice!

+1 - very nice indeed!!

+1 for TrackIR and toebrakes, thanks for listening Flight team

This will bring me back to flying Flight and possibly buying Alaska (depending on what the features end up being in the DLC)

Good to see that they can take useful feedback and accommodate the more serious simmers segment of the customer base...

Flight is using the encrypted TrackIR interface which is actually a step back from FSX which used the open SimConnect interface and allowed for advanced camera control with EZCA EZdok.

I'm so glad they fixed the toebrakes, I thought they might ignore that since relatively few people have them available. I also like the UI updates. I never used TrackIR before but I might have to give it a go now.

Hi himmel, thanks for joining these forums.

EZdok camera addon isn't available for Flight so that title shouldn't be an issue. Legacy wise it's true SIM connect was used, but the encrypted interface was done across the board for ALL titles from TIR 3 so I wouldn't have expected anything else. It doesn't mean it will be a step back as we don't know how Microsoft will implement the TIR support (i.e. inclusion into a future SDK). It seems to me that we're in the best possible position for TIR supporting MS Flight because Microsoft are adding this new feature to an existing product rathar than relying on a legacy interface for older MFS titles, so it really shouldn't be too bad.

You should get trackIR EastCoastGuy....it's fantastic but of course a bit costly. After using it for a while, I find that when I don't have it available I feel like I am wearing a neck brace in-game that prevents me from turning my head.

I always felt I needed a neck brace just to use it. I found it very fatiguing having to sit the same way and limiting movement least I change the view. It's a nice idea but I just can't handle it. Then again that was the first version so maybe it's different now but I don't want to spend the money to find out.

Yep, that’s the same thing I was running into. That is until I discovered the TrackIR “Pause” feature and mapped it to a readily accessible joystick button. (Actually a throttle button in my case, leaving the right hand free) Now it is very easy to toggle TrackIR or freeze the view. During the cruise phase of my flights I tend to leave TrackIR off mostly, quick toggling it back on, on occasion to operate radios or what have you or to glance around. The opposite is true while I’m in the pattern, TrackIR is on mostly – heads on a swivel glancing to and from the airport, instruments, switches, etc… I’ve gotten so used to it I don’t even think about TrackIR anymore…that is until I find myself without one. Now I can’t see how I got along without it.

Same here for me, I have mapped both the "pause" and "recenter" commands to a button on my joystick, which makes it much easier to use for me. I never really think about it anymore either.

Hm, I never have the idea I have to 'sit the same way' and limit my movement... To me it doesn't feel different then actually sitting in a plane... I guess it has to do with setting up the software. I use very soft and smooth settings so I can move a little without te view moving all over the place. But even then: in a real plane you always sit the same way too, don't you? I really am looking forward to using TrackIR in Flight! Finally I can easily look around at the scenery and do patterns without having to touch the mouse!

Too late for me too---because my sons have already told me they booked me for a tandem jump at http://www.skydivebaltimore.com/home/!! Now that's one thing you don't need in Flight. TrackIR on the other hand.... Hmmm, switching to Amazon.

Very cool! I made a few jumps years ago while in the Air Force. Fun stuff.

There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.

Great update! Now I want a flight planner next

Whoooo Hooooo!!

I am very glad to hear of the updates! Especially in Multiplayer as that is where I spend most my time when I am playing. I normally play with my pops(77) and we will get on multiplayer and find random lakes in the ICON and see if we can land in them.

Sometimes with multiplayer it would show a completely different airplane than what he was really in, so I hope that is fixed as well.

I am just excited for Alaska. W00t!
