Overloaded Maule

It would be great to have option to see how much aircraft weight with cargo and persons aboard so you could see how much fuel could you take in. Now I'm only guessing. For Clandestine I make flightplan with PlanG, and add fuel for 50 % longer route. Copilot always tells me that we are too heavy so I ignore him. And last time when I went on mission I couldn't take off. I've just run full speed into trees (which are so luckily at the start & end of airports).

If you open the fueling window (F key) after starting the Job, you do get rudimentary gross weight information.

You can only add fuel here if the field offers services, but it let's you remove fuel anywhere.

Yes, but why is then copilot saying we are overloaded ... ;)

If he knew what he was talking about, he would be sitting left-seat already!

The pre-takeoff checklist needs a couple more steps:

  1. Obtain large wrench.
  2. Beat copilot into unconsciousness.
  3. Continue with remaining checklist.

There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.

He is annoying, I usually just ingore him and do not have a problem.

When a select a cargo job, I see how far it is - then on the next screen I go into the Maule's fuel adjustment and add fuel to give me about an extra 50-60 nm further than the job is listed for. As long as the weight guage stays below the red line, I do not worry about it - so far has not caused me a problem, no matter what the copilot says.

I had a terrible time last night getting the maule off a very short runway, 4 people and tall tall trees all around and oh yes, in the dark to boot. It did not want to leave the ground. Finally had to remove fuel, even then it was touch and go on the edge of a stall.

With 4 people on board, you can carry about 50% fuel maximum and still get off the ground fairly easily. Your weight will be around 2850, 350 pounds overweight. You're in the red, but not off the scale, which happens at 2875. Follow the checklist for short field takeoff.

I usually load 45 gallons total, about 53%. With that I can fly all but the heaviest cargo jobs.

Edit to add: I usually fly at 17 inches manifold pressure, 7 gallons per hour. This gives me an indicated airspeed of around 125-127 knots. If you do the math, that 53% fuel will last 6 hours plus a reserve, and take me over 700 nautical miles. Airspeed will be a fraction less with heavier loads.

Probably not a good thing for Flight to do, encouraging people to take off over gross. Lot of dead pilots and passengers in the real world resulted from just that. I think a departure stall followed by a crash and fire should happen frequently when over gross, just to make it more real.
