July 11, 201213 yr Commercial Member I feel your pain mate - I was getting 18 FPS at KSFO with a 5ghz+ overclock on an i2700. Cheers Jim Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
July 11, 201213 yr Disable HT in BIOS. FSX is working better with real cores only. Then set AffintyMask=15 to use all 4 real cores of your CPU. Look at the task manager > performance tab to be sure you have only four cores working. Run FSX and during flying check workload of core0, this one most on left side in task manager. If workload is close to 100% you need to lower it. Set FPS in FSX to unlimited and setup FPS limitation in Nvidia Inspector to 30. This way you may lower core0 workload which is most important for proper work of FSX. Lower also Lod_radius from 6.5 to 5.5, this parameter also have significant influence on quantity of data processed by CPU. Problem with low FPS in FSX is caused by CPU related settings due that FSX scene rendering is processed in CPU. For the test time lower also TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD setting to 1024. What are your traffic, autogen and scenery density settings?
July 12, 201213 yr Okay, here is the video. Please don't pay attention to the horrible flying, the purpose is to show you the performance. It is not perfect but with FRAPS on I was getting 25 fps and without FRAPS I get near 40 fps. Now, road traffic was set at 30%, airlines traffic at 85%, 30 miles visibility. Add-ons are the usual suspects - Manhattan X, FS Dream Kennedy, Ultimate Traffic 2, GEX, U.S. Terrain, REX etc..Hyperthreading disabled, overclocked to 4.5Ghz. The little performance issues do not bother me anymore, you have to accept the fact that all of us hit a ceiling in terms of performance. It's just the nature of FSX. Following is the video. Watch it HD.....

July 12, 201213 yr I don't see very much AI in that vid. Me neither. At least with MTX and airliners set at 40% those big airports' jetways and parkings are packed with AI aircraft as well as constantly landing and taking off planes. To me, airport in that vid looks pretty much empty.
July 12, 201213 yr Macimate, how about trying my tweaking guide, I'm quite positive that if you go through it, you'll be seeing much higher FPS. Link is in the sig.
July 12, 201213 yr To be honest based on what he says he is running in terms of hardware, all those addons and my own experience with FSX on a very similar PC, I'd say his fps are about where they should be and that his expectations are set very high (like mine are - hence why I'll probably never be truly happy with FSX). I've been playing around with FSX for the better part of 8 months now and reading all kinds of forum posts etc. Seems that whenever someone claims to be getting significantly better fps than everyone else it always turns out that there is something that they have turned off (i.e. AI or Autogen). Seems the inherent difficulty in accurately benchmarking FSX make it frustratingly hard to gauge where performance "should" be.
July 12, 201213 yr A bit of setting this and that will bring the FPS a bit up. It will not run at 40fps, but he should be looking at some 20-25fps. Can't run FSX fully blown and expect 30fps fluid. That is a fact though. Additionally, to posting FSX.cfg, post FSX settings pages. Much easier to look into, then going through FSX.cfg. You think we know by heart what number means what?
July 12, 201213 yr Author Thanks for all the responses guys. Word Not Allowed, I did follow your guide which was very helpful, and I think I gained a couple of FPS around the bigger airports aswell as a very good game experience outside of them (In Aerosoft Keflavik for instance, I pretty much average 30FPS). But I'm still averaging 17-22 FPS in Frankfurt in the PMDG VC. TO be honest, as someone else mentioned, maybe my expectations are set a bit too high, especially with my settings as they are (but I don't like the feeling of "settling" for less realism so to speak) As requested here are my ingame settings:
July 12, 201213 yr A guy posted here today that he setup his computer IAW NickN, Bojote, and Word Not Allowed. He was getting smooth 25 FPS, using your addons, on a 1.73 GHZ CPU and a old video card. I think that would only be possible with massively reduced scenery and autogen density settings, and minimal AA and AF graphics options. Anyone with an overclocked i5 or i7 is not going to be interested in anything other than very high detail settings. July 12, 201213 yr Turn off aircraft itself shadowing, turn off ai, lower scenery to very dense, basically same where your autogen is now and see how your fps are doing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
July 12, 201213 yr Traffic depends on time of day. At 5am, you do not have 30 airlines lined up for take off. My fps are average for the system. In short, I can take off and land in NYC without any major issue. There are spots that cause more issues than other. Tweaks can only help you to a point. IN this game, you are going to hit a ceiling no matter how good a system you have.
July 12, 201213 yr Traffic depends on time of day. At 5am, you do not have 30 airlines lined up for take off. Now that I remember UT2 has this "problem" with empty airports at night, because it spawns planes to the airport just 20 mins before take off or so. MTX has parked planes on the airport around the clock so it hogs resources also during the night hours when flying near the large hubs. Still, your vid doesn't give correct estimate about where the FPS ballpark is when using traffic addon with large amount of aircraft on the scene as it has no traffic at that time of day. Also I can fly around the NY quite smoothly at any given time, but AI gives really big hit, probably nearly halves my FPS there. AI addons are known to be huge resource hogs and that is the reason why it is important to know if someone is using one while complaining about poor FPS. With traffic amount ramped to the maximum you surely get your top-of-the-line rig on its knees around the worlds busiest airports.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk No difference sorry to say. I guess my computer just isn't quite capable of running Mega Airports & PMDG together at the high levels at this point. May look at overclocking the CPU a little more
