July 13, 201213 yr Why are you "stuck" with FSX? You say that as if Flight caters to the same audience as FSX - it does not. Luke Harvest
July 13, 201213 yr Commercial Member This just makes me angry reading this. It's great that they have these improvements for Flight but what about those of us still stuck with the technological dinosaur that is FSX and struggling to get decent performance on modern high-end systems?? Could really use those autogen performance improvements with OrbX sceneries. Not to mention trees that are sized realistically and an overcast cloud layer that IS ACTUALLY OVERCAST! Next they will introduce proper cloud shadowing effects and us FSX users will only be able to drool. Ya! I havent seen a good update to my Pacman game on my Atari 2600 in YEARS! Whats up with that? How dare they abandon old software like that! For shame! They built Flight for the LONG HAUL. Things will continue to be implemented as long as the community support of by buying DLC. We have only scratched the surface of what Flight is really capable of doing, but it may take years to fully materialize. Just remember that FSX was not built in a day ;) Flights only a few months old, and we have already gotten a lot of patches and new features. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
July 13, 201213 yr You say that as if Flight caters to the same audience as FSX - it does not. Two thoughts on that... 1. Flight is not the replacement for everyone, then. 2. Flight is not the only alternative. Ok, make it three, going back to the previous post... 3. MS is not rolling new Windows 8 features into Windows 7, nor did they retrofit Win 7 features into Vista... or XP. So why is there a feeling that Flight's improvements should be patched back in to FSX? What other software maker updates their last-gen titles with the features of their new titles? That sounds a little detrimental to sales.
July 13, 201213 yr How come I stopped getting updates to Windows 95 ? Sent from my SGH-T679 using Tapatalk 2

It's obvious Flight isn't a replacement for everyone, I also don't care for them to incorporate things they've done with Flight in FSX; Flight and FSX are two COMPLETELY different product, I don't think there's a single feature on Flight I'd want to see in FSX - although I haven't used Flight extensively. I was just pointing out that plenty of people are "stuck" on FSX until there's a variety of well simulated addons on other platforms. Luke Harvest
July 14, 201213 yr You say that as if Flight caters to the same audience as FSX - it does not. Exactly! Best, Michael KDFW
July 14, 201213 yr Actually, no, I wasn't saying that Flight was. In fact, I don't recall ANYONE ever saying that it does. But there are alternatives. And if all of them are inferior, why the interest in change?
July 14, 201213 yr What makes it all a bit funnier is if the people joking about FSX being "old technology" open up those cleverly disguised .PAK files in their Flight folder, they'll see the vast majority of Flight is FSX. Luke Harvest
July 14, 201213 yr How did this degenerate into a(nother) Flight vs FSX thread? It's a real shame. It might appear that stories of Flight's demise are premature, which is good. Mike Dryden
July 14, 201213 yr Here's an interesting interview that recently went up on the MS Flight site: A good read, thanks. I'm playing both, so it's interesting to learn the details behind the differences I see.
July 14, 201213 yr the vast majority of Flight is FSX. Yep, same old sim, with some features disabled, some improved, and a few new ones added. Just like most "next gen" follow-on titles from pretty much every software company.

Completely agree, I'm feeling more and more that Flight has great potential considering it's this good at only 4 months old. On the other hand FSX couldn't have got to the stage it has without 3rd party developer support so I'm still hoping that eventually MS and them can find a compromise. Either way, good to hear that further developments in things like the weather engine are in the pipeline. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea

July 14, 201213 yr I think, like artists (and the results of software development can be like art - just check out the lighting and external models in Flight...), they have to develop a pretty thick skin. I sure wouldn't want to read these forums in their position. Mike Dryden
July 14, 201213 yr Never read user-forums for a product you create. Have somebody read them and summarize the useful posts for you, but stay out.
