Could someone let me have the way to contact Ray Smith? The address he listed connects to a New Zealand address but doesn't provide any way to contact Ray. I seem to have a problem with his El Paso (KELP) scenery. Nothing serious but something needs to be corrected, I think.

I emailed him a while back to thank him for all he does and he replied. He usually has his email on all readme files. The only thing I can think of is that he might have recently changed his email.

I highly recommend his AFCADs to anyone who want to make FSX default airports more updated and realistic.

EDIT: It is very UNCOOL to post someone else's email address in a public forum. You just gave the spam bots a wide open door with your invitation to spam the bejesus out of Ray.

I know you had good intentions, but I have reported this post to the mods in order to have the email address edited or removed, before the spam bots get a hold of it, so Ray doesn't start getting flooded with Spam emails, which I don't think he would appreciate much.

Thank You

Thanks

Yeah, sorry, that completely slipped my mind.

That brings up a question! Since you got that address from the read me in the upload in the library, which is obviously accessible from the web, can/does the spam bots read the files in the library looking for email addresses? If so anyone who has an upload and has included their email in a document may also be vulnerable to them.

Thanks

Tom

Not unless they are registered, and can enact a zipdive and read it or download the file and unzip and read it... Which would have to be a pretty sophisticated bot.

But back on point I also got a response from Ray in about a day using email in the readme.

What is the problem with that AFCAD btw?

The problem is trhat there are two large shadow type areas at the terminal sites. As you can see by the attached pic, they're sizeable.

I deleted the first installation, checked my computer to see if there were any "orphan" KELP files hidden somewhere but it was clean.

Re-installed but the same problem showed up. I'm also using GEX and UTX.

Any suggestions?

There are different surfaces at the terminals also in google earth. Maybe he did it unpurpose.

Could be, but it looks odd. At first I thought they were building shadows but I changed to various times and the shadow effect didn't change. It doesn't hurt the scenery in any important way, but as you can see from the pics, it doesn't seem to have anything to to with the tarmac surface.

Maybe Ray will see this and figure out a way to clean it up if possible.

It is a ground shadow of an object.

I looked at the files in ADEX and found an object named "LIRF WireRoofHangar" that covered the terminal.

I moved the object out into the middle of the airport, between the runways and the shadow, though hard to see on the grass, was there.

I don't know what this object is supposed to look like, for some reason it does not display in the sim, yet does cast a shadow.

Turning off object ground shadows fixes it, or you can delete the object with ADEX.

Or hopefully Ray will patch it.

regards,

Joe

[edit]

I visited LIRF and found the building. Don't know why it should be in Texas.

LIRF? Well now that's interesting. Hopefully Ray will get around to patching this. I can't imagine how that got into the scenery.

Texas? The answer to that is that Texas has always claimed to have everything worth having. At least according to my sister in-law who lives there.
