July 23, 201213 yr Flying Bear Studio have released their version of Da Nang International Airport in Vietnam for Microsoft FS2004. Best known perhaps for its earlier role as a US Air Force base during the fighting in the 1960s and 1970s, Da Nang is now the third largest international airport in Vietnam, as well as being shared with a diminishing number of aircraft from the country’s military forces. The FBS version of the airport features custom ground textures and modelling, animated ground vehicles and also more custom objects in the surrounding area. Full details can, as usual, be found on the product page.

But it was a reasonable price and, as a scenery junkie, I knew I would probably buy it eventually so I went for it. Although it is not quite in the top league of FS9 sceneries, it is still a very nice airport addon for this area and gives me a third good payware airport for Vietnam. It has a very generous amount of autogen scenery (mainly buildings) for the surrounding area, which IMO always adds considerably to the sense of realism and is something which I really like to see in airport addons. My only criticism however is that there appears to be two types of autogen here - a sort of Hollywood type movie facade of what look like local ethnic buildings fairly close to the airport perimeter and then lots of very realistic looking mainly highrise buildings further away from the airport. If you get very close to the Hollywood movie backdrops, or fly low over them, they do not look very realistic, but when viewed from the runways or taxiways, they actually manage to achieve a reasonably good effect. I am attaching some screenshots which illustrate what I have said (while flying the Virtavia F-105 mentioned by Ian and the Sea Sprite - both appropriate for Da Nang I guess but about 40 years too early for this scenery!). Despite all of this, I like it and am happy to recommend it as yet another good FS9 payware airport and very fairly priced at that. Bill
July 23, 201213 yr Those 2d buildings look awful, what a shame! I guess there would be a way of getting rid of them but I haven't worked that one out yet!
August 2, 201213 yr OK, very good support from the developer of this scenery with a rapid reply to my query about those 2D buildings! Just remove from the scenery folder (or rename) the 12 bgl files starting with nha (nha.bgl - nha12.bgl). That eliminates that unfortunate looking element of this otherwise very good and reasonably priced payware. Maybe the developer will come back with some nicer autogen at some stage to upgrade those 2D buildings, which don't look too bad from a distance on the ground but are pretty awful IMO from the air. I just wanted to let anyone, who may have been put off by my previous screenshots, that an easy solution is available leaving you with a very nice airport. Bill
August 5, 201213 yr The developer is a quite close friend of mine. He has been doing this for a long long time. He has done some smaller airports to gain skills before doing this one. I think he already contacted AES for AES supported. August 5, 201213 yr I think he already contacted AES for AES supported. According to AirDailyX Da Nang is indeed scheduled to be supported in this weeks AES release.
August 5, 201213 yr As I have said this is a very nice addon and if the '2D' autogen buildings around the perimeter are not for you (they weren't for me!) then they are easy to remove and you are left with an excellent airport IMO. I would encourage anyone who wants another addon airport for this part of the world to buy this and obviously the fact that it is now earmarked for AES support adds to it's attractiveness. Bill
August 5, 201213 yr According to (...) Da Nang is indeed scheduled to be supported in this weeks AES release. It will be indeed. For future I advise checking directly at the source (posts #3 and #4): http://forum.aerosof...24/#entry392405 Have a look and you won't belive how many airports will be supported this time. All time's record, I believe!
August 5, 201213 yr Thanks for the heads-up Rafal. I am delighted that your representations, over time, have finally borne fruit and some Polish airports will be AESed. Maybe complete in V2.25?
August 5, 201213 yr Maybe complete in V2.25? I really really hope so! It is such a great scenery. And once you get hooked on AES all airports without its support seem lifeless and unfinished.
August 5, 201213 yr Commercial Member Glad to see they have added Glasgow, does anyone know why UK2000 Gatwick Extreme is not covered? Rob Prest
August 5, 201213 yr why UK2000 Gatwick Extreme is not covered? It is covered, Rob! See part of my AESHelp: Just make sure you have the latest version. Log into here at the UK2000 website to download the latest patches: If you bought at SimMarket, redownload the product - it will be the latest version.
August 5, 201213 yr Commercial Member Thanks mate :) I thought I must be doing something wrong Rob Prest
August 6, 201213 yr Glad to see they have added Glasgow, does anyone know why UK2000 Gatwick Extreme is not covered? You may be like me and have the earlier version of Gatwick Extreme. It's a bit of a shame that Gary treats updates as new sceneries, so even as a past customer you still have to pay full price for the new version of one you already own... You have to give Aerosoft and especially SimWings great credit - they do the opposite. Even when it's almost a completely new design, you still get upgraded for free like they did recently with German Airports 3... I'm not knocking UK2000 - as a one man operation I'm sure it's difficult to make a living and do that kind of upgrading for free. But even a discount for owners of a previous version would be welcomed... Ian
