July 28, 201213 yr Essential must haves/do: FSUIPC to capture G3D crapping out and if you're on Windows 7 64 the replacement UIAutomationCore.dll.. These two alone will sure up overall stability and up time. Addons, eh.. Matter of preference for a lot of them. Some say GEX is essential, while I personally think default textures look better than GEX by a long shot.. All personal taste.. July 28, 201213 yr Apart from the fact that my FS 2004 looks absolutely gorgeous, and runs SMOOTHLY every day, with all my various little tweaks, and add-ons.... ...REX, GE Pro, VOZ 1.8, UT USA and Canada, Freeware meshes, etc, etc... ....the other thing that will keep me firmly welded to FS 2004 for the foreseeable future, are my amazing "FS Navigator", and my wonderful "LAGO FSE" scenery design program, (both programs no longer available, and certainly not made for FSX!)..... ...! Paul...FS 2004... ....(and FSX, on very rare occasions... ...)....!
July 28, 201213 yr Funny, this forum has now become the FSX forum apparently. I took a 6 year break from Fight simming until I tried Flight, and jumped back into it I was so impressed with the flight model in flight. I will probably fly Flight for awhile, but there is no way I could ever go back to FSX or X-Plane now that I see what a good flight model behaves like on a PC. I decided in the last couple of weeks to change directions, and am now becoming involved in Railroad sims ( Trainz 2012 ) and am having a blast. If the forum is fully open, trainz is as good a topic as any. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. July 29, 201213 yr I think the Flight forum is the most appropriate place to discuss other sims in general, regarding how to recreate or approximate aspects of Flight. This is, after all, the place to find other Flight users, and it's their opinions I'm looking for. I can only imagine the responses of going to the FSX or XP forums and asking "How do I make this like Flight?" But once people do know what sims or add-ons to try, their forums are obviously a better place to seek specific guidance on using them. I agree. I would like to start running FSX but I have no idea where to start. A simple 3 steps for newbs would be great...pinned to the top of the forum.
July 29, 201213 yr Some say GEX is essential, while I personally think default textures look better than GEX by a long shot. HelloYou are not alone with that view trust me,. Especially with GEX Europe, USA was fine
July 29, 201213 yr While the textures GEX gives you are nice along with the autogen improvements they provide as well ( I do highly recommend GEX), I think the biggest improvement scenery wise you can make is to get UTX. I think it's essential to improving FSX and would be the first addon I'd get. Ken
July 29, 201213 yr Author Thanks for all the advice. I installed GEX NA and UTX USA yesterday and had my FSX.cfg tweaked by that web tool. Boy what a difference visually. New England now looks very closer to what I see out the window at 3000 feet in the Cessna. That was $70 well spent. Brian
July 31, 201213 yr Author REX Essentials installed yesterday. FSX is starting to look a lot better. Brian
