Canadair Regional Jet?

You can't really expect a very good virtual cockpit in fs2004

Disagreed. There are some really great FS9 VC's around, with AirSimmer's one on top IMO. iFly also has a great one.

On the other hand when I was (unsuccesfully) trying to 'like' FSX I did fly a few VC's and I wasn't particularly thrilled.

So even though FSX offers more polygons and higher texture resolution these fact themselves neither guarantee a top noth FSX VC nor prevent FS9 from offering one.

Well, ok. It all depends on what you think a 'quality' virtual cockpit is.

Absolutely true.

I enjoy these ERJ's and IMHO they are better than the E-Jets package

Agreed. Being an owner of Wilco/FeelThere's 737, Airbus vol.1, Airbus vol.2, ERJ and E-Jets I have no doubts to say the ERJ series is their most mature product to date.

If you don't mind having no autothrottle, flying mostly regional routes, and being limited to not so many RW airlines using them today, that's a really great product to have.

So my system is setup and run greats with all of my addons. Including my newest addition the Embraer 145XR, which for Regional flights I absolutely LOVE. My only question is how do I get a GPS setup on either another pc or as a small window in my flight> I have iGmap for iPhone, however I just cant get it to run well with FS9. It shows my location as off the coast of Africa! :0

Thanks

Nico

If good quality VC is what you are looking for, I am afraid none of the Wilco Feelthere products will fit the bill! Even 2D panels are fuzzy at best, their legibility is terrible, I own several (Airbus and Embraer) and it takes a lot of patience to decipher what some buttons are meant for at first, their cockpit design is at best despicable whereas their system designs is "OK" if you wish to be lenient. Sorry for sounding so negative, there are plenty of much better products around. I also agree that VC in FS9 can be remarkable and along with Rafal I find the Airsimmer A320 VC absolutely superb. Good luck.

Thanks Kiwi,

In that case what would you say is better? I dont mind Embraers or 737's either but Ive got a 737 that I enjoy flying :)

Hi Nico

My advice is stick with iFly 737 as it sets the bar for the best in FS9 airliners. The regional jet to have is the QW146, if you want something that's a bit "retro." The FeelThere E-Jets product would give you the EMB 170-190 line to fly. A lot of people really like it. For some reason I never got really immersed in it, though the flight model is outstanding. (I will be giving it another try soon, now I have my new system set up.)

If regional is your thing, the Flight1 ATR is an absolute classic.

Ian

I would agree completely with Ian's advice. I sometimes find that a good way to judge the quality of an aircraft addon is by looking at how often you fly it. I have both the Wilco CRJ and the Feel There Emb 135/145 and 170/190 series in my hangar and that is where they stay most of the time. That is not to say that they are bad aircraft - indeed I would grade them as very very good but not excellent. There are better aircraft out there in the regional jet category and I would second Ian's view that the one to go for is the Quality Wings British Aerospace 146/RJ, which is superb. The other one to consider is the Digital Aviation Fokker 100 (Available from Flight 1), which though excellent from a systems viewpoint, is not quite up there with the QW 146 and does not have a virtual cockpit. The Flight 1 ATR 72 is also excellent in every way and clearly the best turboprop addon out there for FS9, but though a regional airliner it is a turboprop, so if you are looking for a jet then go with the QW 146.

Bill

Neither of the two regional planes mentioned by Bill were particularly popular in the U.S. We have been exposed to the CRJ's and ERJ's for some time. I for one tend to favor those because of that. I think the larger airplanes were held onto because of the comfort factor on longer flights. That's not so much a concern now that most domestics have faced bankruptcy. The QW 146 is indeed a fine package.

I did a few trips with a NWA regional in the ARJ/146 out of ORD back in the 80s(?) and at the time it was probably the most spacious regional airliner around. But once the CRJ and then the larger Embraer products began to hit the market, it couldn't compete economically. As for the ATR, I think that very early crash with American Eagle due to icing soured the US market in favor of the Dash-8, though in my view the ATR is a far more comfortable aircraft to travel in.

You're right, Ian. Horizon Air has had the Dash-8 as a mainstay for years. They still fly them. The Canadians have done well in the American market. I'm not a big fan of the small jets from the standpoint of being a passenger.

Before downloading the ERJs you may want to backup your DLL.XML File. I downloaded the Embraers and it temporarily messed up all my addons. Now, I have to figure out how to reconfigure my DLL.XML to recognize the ERJ happily together with my other addons. How many hours will this take?

Wow! I've never heard of that problem. Have you contacted Feelthere?

Ive got the ERJ's and they are great. Not sure if they are killing my addons but my scenery has gotten worse... :(

BillW. Yes I contacted Feelthere by email Thursday around Midnight. I'll post more when I hear from them (I hope)
