August 13, 201213 yr I was just thinking today how much I'd love to have a native FSX Vickers VC10 with a virtual cockpit and all the bells and whistles. With the exception of Concorde the VC10 has to be the best looking and most elegant jet airliner ever to fly, and it flew every bit as good as it looked with huge take off and climb performance. I know there's already the excellent Dave Maltby VC10 for FS9 but a native FSX model would be very welcome indeed, Just Flight.... I'm looking at you..... And if not a VC10 then how about a BAC 1-11, Trident, or (gasp!) a Britannia? Nick
August 13, 201213 yr ME !!! The thing is who would make it... yes Just Flight could be. Along with that I also hope for a Caravelle. Alexander Colka

August 13, 201213 yr I loved flying the VC-10 (David Maltby's model) in FS9 until I got TrackIR, as now I rarely fly anything without a VC. I'd be very tempted by a VC-10 with a VC (how can you not, it's even in the name....) David Maltby has a very nice BAC 1-11 and Trident on his website I probably have my most jet hours in David Maltby's outstanding BAC 1-11. It seems to port to FSX very well, as far as I can see it works as well as in FS9 to which it is native, and as well as other FSX native models that I have. The VC, which I fly in all the time, is excellent. It's by a long way my favourite freeware aircraft. The Trident was made to a similar standard, including the VC, but I don't have enough hours in it in FSX to say for sure it ports as well as the 1-11 but I don't remember any obvious problems.

Yes me too. Would love a VC-10 with a good quality VC. I can't fly with 2D panels anymore. I love David Maltbys aircraft. The 1-11 flies beautifully and I love that worn photoreal cockpit. The Trident also has very realistic handling qualities according to an ex-Trident pilot I spoke to so maybe worth taking it "for a spin" again. Works fine for me in FSX. Cheers Adam
August 13, 201213 yr In the meantime you could just download the next best thing? http://www.avsimrus.com/f/fsx-originalnie-samoleti-79/il-62m-aeroflot-sssr-34946.html?action=download&hl= Don't knock it! I'm a huge fan of all the British Classics, but I've also flown in a good few Aeroflot planes. Never an Il-62, but it was one of these that flew in a replacement part and the engineers to fix a 767 that left us stranded in Cuba  ! Actually I'd be more interested in a 1-11 but as I'm old enough to remember them taking off over my flat in Ealing I'm not sure my speakers are up to the noise they made :P . I totally agree though that the library of early jet liners could stand a few "state of the art" models? Geoff Geoff Brown
August 13, 201213 yr Author I'm a VC only flyer in FSX now. I think when I get home I'll reinstall FS9 with a few old favourites including the David Maltby jets, which are my all time favourite freeware. he Trident also has very realistic handling qualities according to an ex-Trident pilot I spoke to so maybe worth taking it "for a spin" again A few months ago one of the UK aviation mags did an issue with lots of Trident articles to mark the 50th anniversary of its first flight. I find the Trident story fascinating, and wonder what might have been if De Havilland had been allowed to build the aircraft they wanted to instead of the emasculated design that BEA turned it into.... Perhaps aviation history would have turned out very differently. Still, I always loved Bruce Dickinson's (of Iron Maiden) description of the Trident in the TV series he made called "Flying Heavy Metal" - he described the Trident as "three hairdryers flying in close formation". I'm old enough to remember them taking off over my flat in Ealing My Dad was from Ealing - he grew up just next to Lammas Park. I grew up a little bit further out underneath the approach to 27R in Fulham :) Nick
August 13, 201213 yr Dave Maltby's VC10 is a really good model though in its basic form lacking in cockpit functionality. I've tried to restore that with my panel upgrades on avsim and to match the cockpit functions as closely as possible to the check lists and flight manual. I'm told that the model including the updates work well in FSX. I've done hundreds of changes including, a night panel, pressurisation management, oxygen supply, fully functioning ignition panel, marshaller and a multitude of other stuff. Well over 100 visible changes plus many more background additions. I'm currently working on a white light cockpit which I'm hoping to release in September along with a revised oxygen panel (see below) and increased enhancement to the engine fire management system. (in the second image the "real" fire bell test switch is now working. I'm also working on a fully functioning engineer's panel though that will take time. BTW DM's 2D layout is excellent and the best way to recreate the correct perspective is to sit left of centre directly in front of the pilot's T. This allows you to scan the instruments in a more realistic manner. Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA

August 13, 201213 yr .....just looked at Davids site and noticed the 1-11 sounds... http://www.dmflights...uk/bac_1-11.htm Looks like he got that bit right  ? Interesting to note that they work well in FSX. Geoff Geoff Brown
August 14, 201213 yr My Dad was from Ealing - he grew up just next to Lammas Park. I grew up a little bit further out underneath the approach to 27R in Fulham :) I was born and bred in Fulham and our house on Fulham Palace Road was inbetween the approach for 27L and 27R so I spent many a happy hour in the garden with my binoculars, tripod and "Civil Aircraft Markings" (Ian Allan) book! When I eventually discovered airband radios I could sit in the garden and clearly hear ATC at Heathrow as well as the overflying aircraft. It added a totally new dimension to the hobby and led me to gain my PPL when I was 18. I miss the Trident 3. That made an awful racket on takeoff! Regards Adam PS: I think it's time I reinstalled the DM VC-10 with those great updates.

'Tis a small world! When I was born in 1981 my family was living in Crefeld Close (where Lille Road meets Dawes Road). When I was 4 we moved to Rostrevor Road and lived there until my family moved out of London in 1992. I recently did the family tree thing and found out my mum's family moved to Fulham from Norfolk sometime between 1860 and 1870. My mum's (large) family all lived in Lewis Trust shortly after it was built in the 1920s and were there right up until the 1990's. Alas, none of us are left there now :( I remember as a kid the aeroplanes going over every 3 minutes. I remember Concorde rattling the windows :) When we left London we moved to Herne Bay in Kent and for the next 18 years lived under the approach of runway 10 at Manston. I can remember when Manston was an RAF base walking home from the bus stop after school and seeing all sorts of RAF and USAF jets flying around. When the RAF left and Manston became a civilian airport we used to get the Il-76, DC-8 and 747 freighters. Not much at all there nowadays :( Nick
August 16, 201213 yr I will not fly anything in FSX that does not have a high resolution, super detailed VC. That being the case, it would be nice to see an FSX native VC10 or Bac 1-11. I was always interested in Manston what with the amount of unusual air traffic passing through it. I flew in there a few months after I passed my PPL. My PA28 felt miniscule approaching that massive runway!
