August 19, 201213 yr I had to reinstall my FSX\gold onto a new/used computer with win7 Pro 32. I used to have Ult. I'm in the middle of installing Andreas Koerners' a-5 for FSX which I can succesfuly install by unzipping to a temp and from there moving the folder to simobject\airplanes folder. There is a nice by 2D panel for the Icon A5 for FSX, by Dan Cowan which requires replacing some folders. amongst other the .air file which I don't have. I checked all my a/c's in my installation and non of them have their .air file.Or is not being shown? I changed my folder options to "show all hidden files and folders" But it doesn't help!???...I just realized that the .air file have changed (probably by me) and are now shown as installer packages in a Brown box which opens with Adobe; Inside the box I can see it says "air" Shouldn't they be read by notesblok? Some one help Berlopez .air file a/c structure attached.
August 19, 201213 yr You also need to uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"... just click the help button in file explorer and type in "File extensions" and select the first entry that comes up to learn all about it. DJ
August 19, 201213 yr When Adobe Air gets installed on your computer it changes the registry and associates the .air file extension with Adobe Air. The .air files in your FS are still .air files and can be open with utilities like AirEd. The best thing to do is just be aware that this in no way affects FSX and ignore the :installers", they won't install anything. They are still the FS .air files and you can still treat them as such. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
January 10, 201313 yr Author Yes the files works, They opened before with another utility, like winzip+ Now they are being opened with this installer package?
January 13, 201313 yr download FS9 / FSX AirEd Revised and it will reassociate the files to the way that they are supposed to be. http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=FSX%2FFS2004+AirEd+Revised&categoryId=
January 13, 201313 yr download FS9 / FSX AirEd Revised and it will reassociate the files to the way that they are supposed to be. http://simviation.co...sed&categoryId= That's not an up to date version. Better to stay with avsim and get the latest from their library http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=aired&CatID=root&Go=Search An important point to remember is that a specific airfile for a specific a/c does not always show every table that is available. But's quite straightforward to copy one over from another a/c. Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA

January 14, 201313 yr Hey guys ,thanks for your replies, What if I were to uninstall Adobe.air from my computer? would this reassign the files? .You got me confussed, with "An important point to remember is that a specific airfile for a specific a/c does not always show every table that is available. But's quite straightforward to copy one over from another a/c." Berlopez It's quite simple really. Each a/c has its own airfile and devs quite often only use the tables necessary for their a/c. They leave out tables that they aren't using. Which means tables that you might want to see might not be in the airfile. Three tables were missing from the airfile I have been modifying which I needed to create genuine icing scenarios. It was quite straightforward to find these tables in other a/c and copy them over. Another example a turboprop will not have the same tables as a jet. Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA

The file association has no affect on Flight Sim and having Adobe Air does no harm, either. Vololiberista's post, while knowledgeable and correct, has no bearing on the topic at hand and is only of value to people interested in modifying .air files. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.

Without something like Airwrench for editing the Air file, you'll just see gibberish anyway but it will be functional as long as it has.air extension.
