MD-11 vs 737NGX experience

Featured Replies

I need to get a life... I think that was part of the modification program Swissair initiated in 1999 or 2000. I remember reading that there were cameras/heat sensors installed in the attic above the cabin and other areas. These were supposed to give the crew an earlier indication that a fire or smoke existed.

Yeah they show the system they installed working in the Swiss Air DVD, as the Captain is crawling around the avionics bay showing the viewer what all the electronics in each box control does, quite amazing.........to see the captain on the thermal image as he demonstrates the system............Just makes you wonder why they didn't just install FSX and PMDG's MD11, seems to do all the same things at a fraction of the cost lol..................Just joking

Happy Flying,

Hi,

For everyone who hasn't bought the MD-11 yet, it would be a great time now. Aerosoft offers 20% on all PMDG products expect the NGX. But only this weekend, so be quick

Man, I should have waited.....

I think the fun you had until now with the MD-11 is well worth those 20% of the price, isn't it?

I dont think PMDG should classify the MD-11 as a failure. Sure maybe they didnt get the projected sales they wanted, mostly for the planes lack of RW fanfare, but the model is pretty darn good. Its not up there with the NGX because it was developed well before it and NGX is a whole new animal in development, but I keep coming back to this plane for its challenge, automation, and the trijet just looks great looking at outside views and REX or AS in background. I would think the NGX also had more marketing hype to build up for purchase. It gets my vote not to discount this bird and I second the poster above who encourages anyone who hasnt got this plane to get it. Its a joy to fly.

When I worked on the ramp at CYVR pushing back this plane in the tug was just cool. As well as the DC10 its older cousin.

Thank you again PMDG for doing this plane. You get a pat on the back from me.

I agree entirely. Don't have the new 737NGX yet, but prefer PMDG's MD11 to the B744 and that's despite never quite managing to master either. Would never have made it as a CPL in the R/W, but the simulation is great -and demanding - and a real challenge for a dumbo like me!

So after all is said and done, the MD11 (or should it be the MD!!) is probably money well spent and many thanks to PMDG for it.

The fact is that every time there's a new release the MD-11 will sell more. When I got the NGX i was so amazed that within 2 months I got the JS4100 too. The MD-11 is joining my hanger next weekend, and the 747x would be too if they weren't bringing out a brand new one soon. I'm sure there are a lot of people that have done the same as me. Once you buy PMDG, you just can't accept less, so you go and get the back catalogue. :)

Nice to hear you also going to buy the MD-11.

I would suggest that you buy it today or tomorrow (if you can), as it will be 20% off in the aerosoft shop. This will save you a little bit for the 747 or the 777.

The fun of the automation is seeing your programming in action.

In short, it is the same way those who build automated factories in Minecraft derive their fun, it is seeing the end result of your actions.

Well, to each his own. It's just not my thing.

I think you kind of hit the nail on the head there Stephen. PMDG has spoiled me big time. While I've never been a fan of the MD-11 (or DC-10), I have decided to get it because I need a real "cargo" hauler and frankly, I trust PMDG's work. The next release of the 747 will be automatic for me as it's the one I'm REALLY looking forward to (as long as there is a cargo version!), but the MD-11 is hardly a "make-do" machine. I hope PMDG doesn't see the MD-11 as a "failure", even if it didn't sell (yet!) as many as they hoped. I think it's as you, and others have said here - once you try one and see how good it really is, you tend to start looking at their other products. I have the NGX and the J41. Seeing how good those are has prompted me to look at the MD-11 and ultimately to purchase it. I suspect in the long run, their sales will be what they hoped for, if indeed they weren't right off the bat (I've not heard them say that, but I don't spend a lot of time on forums so I may have missed it).
