August 26, 201213 yr A special 'Thank You' to all of the developers of Aircraft Repaints in the download library. I can't tell you how much your efforts are appreciated. You transform the delivered aircraft to a new level. It is always exciting to get new skins. Sometimes it is almost like getting a new plane. For the smaller GA planes that I fly, there are two developers that seem to stand out: Ron Attwood and Richard Luycx. That said, I am sure there are many others that could and should be mentioned. So to all of you, I give my sincere thanks. I feel obligated to occasionally make donations to AVSIM to help keep this wonderful service available. If this isn't the correct forum, will some kind administrator please move it to the right place.
August 26, 201213 yr Agreed. I posted a series in the screenshot section with the same intent. All the repainters out there are appreciated! - Aaron
August 26, 201213 yr Much so. I very much enjoy my HD Air Berlin A319. What a beauty. I've tried my hand at repainting, and I know what kind of work goes into it. Many, many thanks.
August 26, 201213 yr You're very kind PDX. I can probably speak for all painters when I say your sentiments are appreciated. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
August 27, 201213 yr Author Here is a question for the repainters. On the average, how much time goes into doing each repaint?
August 27, 201213 yr Here is a question for the repainters. On the average, how much time goes into doing each repaint? I would say...weeks, sometimes months, If you think there is something like minimun of 2 and goes up to 6(let's say) main textures (+alphas inside them). Each one you need to rebild-edit other kinds like "bump" and "spec" files. So you will endup with more or less 10 files...etc...and keep going :) For me, when dealing with HD (4096x4096) takes a bit longer editing small visible things (as the L-188's that i like so much). Everyday you find something, some new spot and you just want to add and thanks God about those amazing freeware models (for me they are harder to bild), so we can keep sharing and undertanding how happy and fun it is to fly :)
August 27, 201213 yr fscabral ... thanks for your beautiful repaints for the electra too ^_^ and of course all the other artists that do the amazing job for us. September 4, 201213 yr I can bang out one in about 12 hours though admittedly, my repaints are not as detailed as some out there. Usually I am painting for functionally providing liveries for the folks in my VA. Maybe when I have more time I will be able spend a lot of time on them. Some of the ones in the library are just outstanding-- Jim Atkins
September 4, 201213 yr Here is a question for the repainters. On the average, how much time goes into doing each repaint? 7-8hrs to paint it, and another 5-6hrs to comb over it with an OCD eye making 8,001 corrections to the point you almost ruin it and then out of no where everything just falls together perfectly and you upload it just to stop yourself from touching anything else. September 4, 201213 yr Author styckx...WOW! That is a lot of time and work. And just think that the Flight Sim community gets to benefit from all of your labors. Hopes this brings some type of satisfaction to you and all of the repainters. How does one get started in doing repaints?
September 4, 201213 yr I'd go along with Bill here, maybe a bit longer because my reactions aren't what they used to be! How do you get started? You start with a decent image programme, Photoshop if you can run to it, DXTBmp is essential, then download a paint kit from whoever and mess with it until things start to gel. If you can get a stripe on the side of a plane and it doesn't even have to be straight, you're hooked! The World is divided into two groups. September 4, 201213 yr Author Thanks Ron. I am going to look into this repaint thing. I am a bit of an anal guy (self professed) and this looks like pretty exacting work. I used to be a programmer analyst type of guy. So this might be right up my alley. Thanks again. Jack.

If you can get a stripe on the side of a plane and it doesn't even have to be straight, you're hooked! Pretty much this.. I started repainting trains about 5 years ago and soon as I saw something I did in Photoshop appear in the simulator I was instantly hooked; and looking back it was really terrible work. I don't churn out planes as much as I did trains.. Such a difference in the approach to repainting an aircraft. It was like starting all over again; which is a good thing since I was forced to learn new techniques..
