August 26, 201213 yr BTW..I am looking for good approach plates for this airport, VQPR. Like the one he is using.I found some, but the PDF is restricted to viewing..Can't print em out.MAnny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
August 26, 201213 yr Nice approach, looks like a really interesting procedure. With the latest terrain display stuff, this should be even more fun. There's a video and a freeware file for FSX here. PARO Freeware Airport is designed by Ian Whiteside from FSOpen. From the readme. Here's Chart(s) -http://www.virtualir.../DANG4/VQPR.pdf
August 26, 201213 yr Author From the readme. Thanks CoolP. Perfect! I need to check out that freeware in addition to the Thai creations PARO. Thai Creations seems to have done it well for their FS9. The FSX Runway textures aren't good at all..but still.. its worth considering it. I just flew this approach with the PMDG 737NGX I couldn't do it.. too fast on approach. 4 tries and FAIL. ..I think this is the hardest approach I have seen. Inssbruck doesn't even come close. How do you descend close to 6000 feet in 1.7 miles? Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
August 26, 201213 yr How do you descend close to 6000 feet in 1.7 miles? By stalling. :o Seriously, I have to look into that one. I've just looked at your video in fast forward and then went looking for FSX scenery. Until actually flying, it may take some time. I'm planning on the 737-200. By the way, I may pick your tip and post it over at CS, if you are ok with that. We are collecting some nice approaches over there and I think yours is a really tough one. Well, the one from Lou into BIIS was hard too. Yes, we also had carrier landings. ^_^ I think I saw where you got that 6000 feet in 1.7 miles from. Don't forget the visual part, that's where you lose altitude later. So, with the airport in sight, you can descend from those 12500ft (MDA) and start your visual circling. Look at the video from 02:00 on. He goes down to 11500, then 9500 and so on. Seems like he aims for small turn radii and a lot of descend rate, so that's where the rather low speed for the airliners comes from, and the huge bank angles. 30-40° sounds extreme, but I haven't looked or tried it so far. Surely not an everyday approach in a 737.

August 26, 201213 yr Yes, click the video I've posted to watch it on youtube, they have the link in the description. The download works, I just couldn't test it as I'm away from my FSX rig.
August 26, 201213 yr Manny, Great video! Can you share what sort of flight controller you are using, and how you have them setup in FSX (i.e. sensitivity, null zone, etc)? Thanks very much! August 26, 201213 yr I think Manny posted the video, but he isn't the one flying and explaining. Same as we are, he's excited about mastering that approach in an airliner.

If anyone is aware of what yoke/rudder combo or joystick setting was used in that video, along with the settings in FSX, please let me know. Thanks! August 27, 201213 yr I think the video is from FS2004 and the plane is the iFly -700. As for the control hardware, perhaps the folks in this section can give general tips and HUs on the quirks. http://forum.avsim.net/forum/328-hardware-controllers-drivers/
August 27, 201213 yr Get your charts from these two sites http://va-transaero.ru/files/charts/VQPR.pdf and http://www.dca.gov.bt/aip/iaip/aerodrome_Index And why the 737 was not chosen by the local airline. http://www.boeing.com/commercial/aeromagazine/aero_23/737-700Bhutan.pdf In spite of Boeing Praising themselves they were not chosen because the 737 doesn't have the slow speed tight turning ability of the A320. to see how it's done in reality look here:- Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
August 27, 201213 yr Commercial Member Druk air (the only airline to fly into that airport) use 3 modified A319's, they are equipped with A321 engines. Must be great fun flying there for real. Rob Prest
August 27, 201213 yr Druk air (the only airline to fly into that airport) use 3 modified A319's, they are equipped with A321 engines. Must be great fun flying there for real. Will have to put that on the to-do list. What an amazing approach, A319 is over-powered as it is, never mind with some A321 rated engines slapped on! Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
August 27, 201213 yr Another nice video there. I didn't know about the detail on the planes, with the bigger engines and things. I just saw that the freeware airport really makes sense. There isn't a default airport in FSX. I may still head for the old 737-200 tying that one. Ain't no A319 as of yet on my disk, but I'm waiting for some good one. Well, I have time.
