August 27, 201213 yr You're all ware that only eight pilots are certified to fly there in real life, right? Eight. Of, like, hundreds of thousands. I don't mean to turn you away from trying, but "The Fail is strong in this one". Seriously though, it's going to be really, really, hard to land there. Thanks, Adlai

Anyone know the training necessary to land there, just a couple of sim sessions like for Innsbruck / Madeira? Or have you to do a bit of jumpseating first? Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
August 27, 201213 yr I envision an A330 trying to land there soon. More seriously, I saw they had 146-100 before the A319, so that's quite a step, huh? You're all ware that only eight pilots are certified to fly there in real life, right? Eight. Of, like, hundreds of thousands. That's a bit misleading I think. The number comparison. Not all pilots of the planet need to qualify for Bhutan, even if they like to. They don't fly there. And if they do, they have to keep it current of course.

August 27, 201213 yr Am I the only one asking himself why they've built an airport right there? Well, happens on some other locations too. Maybe it grew until allowing for the jets, then they wondered how the jets can actually approach it. Just guessing.

They only have 8 pilots because there fleet is 3 aircraft. In no way trying to put down the level of skill required but any A3xx driver should be able to hack it with enough training. You should see the descent 4 into Quito, 747-400's fly that approach raw data at night, and I definitely didn't evnvy the Kallita 747 guys when they we're flying there clapped out old classic freighters in & out off there on a daily basis not too long ago! The words 'balls' and 'steel' spring to mind... Rob Prest

In my opinion the MSFS approach has A LOT more room for error than the real life approach.. Especially in the room you have to turn to line up the runway. In the MSFS version he had plenty of space to line up and fly in.. In the real life terrain he's basically finishing his turn as the nose is crossing the threshold. A LOT more tighter in real life. August 27, 201213 yr Commercial Member Yeah Paro is awesome... I think I will start flying around there again when I get bored of Caribbean.

I guess FSGlobal should cover the country to some extend, so perhaps the addon airport then adds the character to the rest. Either way, I think I will fail on that one.

Regards, Ró. as far as I'm aware it's "on the job" training! It's a VMC only airport as well, obviously! The RAF at Brize tried it on their VC10 sims and just got away with it. But then they like to stick it on its wingtip. It's more fun that way!! Nope, and definitely after watching the video of the real approach. (observing from the videos) The sim scenery doesn't do justice to the real scenery. The river's not quite correct either. Also I believe that in the payware scenery the rwy is not correctly aligned as well. I like the initial descent down to 4,000ft after crossing the mountain ridge and then flying over the airport before the turn. Not the right time to be serving lunch that's for sure! August 27, 201213 yr Ah, right I see. Well there goes that mad idea then, Oh well.... I like the way the pilots nonchalantly rest their forearms on the glareshield. And after the landing the stewardess "welcoming" the passengers in a calm "Its just another day in the office" tone of voice! August 27, 201213 yr For the ones interested, the freeware scenery from this video (video description at youtube) works fine in FSX. So the way is free to trying this approach. The river is there, the road and it installs some mesh too.

I'm just listening to the guy almost gasping out "Argh, they're going really heavy on the brakes" and thinking to myself "That's my kinda landing"... ^_^ In all honesty though, I don't think I'd have the nerves to Jumpseat that approach, I was bad enough in Innsbruck, I'd either have to be at the controls, or on the ground waving up at them going by, no in between options....
