August 27, 201213 yr You could always vote for the profitable route Dublin - Paro to be established. Yeh, that's the plan, I become CP and next thing you know, EIN's 5 newest routes are all to the worlds 5 most dangerous airports... I'd say that'd raise more than a few eyebrows... :P You'd have management there asking: "Ró, what kind of market research exactly did you do, to decide that A DUBLIN PARO ROUTE WOULD BE A PROFITABLE ROUTE?!?!?!?!?" And I'd just sit in the corner and squeek out "Well, Urm, I asked Barry in the crew room yesterday if he'd like to fly there, and he sounded really enthusiastic, so I kinda took him as a representative sample of all of the Republic... " Rónán O Cadhain.
August 27, 201213 yr That market research method sounds familiar. You gotta be creative, they've said. ^_^ Now, which plane to pick in the sim? I already have trouble identifying the vital landmarks with the default trike. Ok, the engine was off, I admit.
August 27, 201213 yr I flew the -700 NGX a bunch of times into VQPR rwy 15 last winter. Got better and better with each try but never really nailed it to my satisfaction. The thing about this approach is that, except for the VOR reference on the initial approach, it's completely visual, and every time I flew it I had totally clear skies. Enter real-time weather and the difficulty factor increased considerably. With cloud breaks just 800-1000' above the runway, most visual cues are lost. On the downwind it's very hard to know exactly when to start the big right turn. And, if you can't see the monastery ahead of you on final, getting oriented for that right jog before turning to rwy heading is near impossible. The certified pilots obviously have a lot more visual references in the real world than we do in FSX. My hat is off to you if you can do the 15 approach with low-ish clouds and not end up in the river or plastered onto a mountainside. :)) BTW, the Thai Creation Paro scenery (SimMarket) adds a lot of detail to help you with the visual approach. If you reference the attached chart, you can even see Mr. Smith's house. Give him a wave for me on your next perilous approach. :)) - Jev McKee, AVSIM member since 2006. August 27, 201213 yr Thanks for the chart. I was thinking about the payware too, but I guess I'll try the freeware first on a few rounds. Which routes were you flying from and to Paro? I mean, apart from the obvious Dublin route (I will continue to spread the rumour of it being profitable as this may influence some rw decisions ).
August 27, 201213 yr Which routes were you flying from and to Paro? Kathmandu (VNKT). Nice, short flight with gorgeous Himalayas scenery along the way. - Jev McKee, AVSIM member since 2006. Specs: i7-2600K oc to 4.7GHz, 8GB, GTX580-1.5GB, 512GB SSD, Saitek Pro Flight Yoke System, FSX-Acceleration
August 28, 201213 yr I am unable to print the aerodrome charts on the dca.gov web site quoted above. My print icon is greyed out for some reason. Anyone aware of this or am I doing something wrong? Thanks! I had no propblem at all but that was some time ago. you can even see Mr. Smith's house. Give him a wave for me on your next perilous approach. :)) Mr. Smith's house is or was a hotel. flights are frequently cancelled as it's a VFR VMC landing only. So if your real weather METAR shows it as closed in then you shouldn't even be attempting the flight. (that's the good thing about the sim. You don't die if you crash!!) August 28, 201213 yr On a clear day and when the wind is blowing from the north - try a landing onto RWY 33. Visual all the way there between the mountains and lots of fun.

August 28, 201213 yr Tried out the approach today, it's enough to make any pilot humble.... *I'm a bit rusty, don't take that as an example of my best flying* Soooo, anyone know a good place where you can get you're landing gear replaced in Paro? Unrelated note, anyone know if FSRecorder can record in game sounds instead of having to put audio over it? Though if ever we do fly to Paro, that music shall have to be played in the cabin and on the flight deck, really increases the atmosphere of terror... ^_^ Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
August 28, 201213 yr The Dublin route is alive! Well, now I know for sure that you rw folks like it dramatic. So you is the A330 landing with the Top Gun music on the cockpit speakers. ^_^ By the way, amazing thing how much the music changes on the mood. I've muted your Batman soundtrack and took the music from this one. This made the same approach look much easier. I will try that approach too, still around the UK these days. But the one thing which may be missing on your end is Trackir, Rónán. Lets see if I can get the 737-200 to come in safely. Haven't tried so far.
August 28, 201213 yr Well, now I know for sure that you rw folks like it dramatic. So you is the A330 landing with the Top Gun music on the cockpit speakers. ^_^ The very one, gotta have a bitta music to liven up the pace on landing, or a bitta salsa with the new CC in the cruise... ^_^ I will try that approach too, still around the UK these days. But the one thing which may be missing on your end is Trackir, Rónán. I have it, never quite got it working right though, I think I sit too close to the receiver for it to do it's stuff without deciding that the most suitable place to randomly glance or stare at just before the landing flare is the rear of the over head panel, or the interesting speck of dirt on the rudder pedals.... Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.

It adds so much, especially on the visual references. No hat switch can handle that hands free. Either way, great video and an encouraging one too for me as a simmer. It is possible to land there. :o

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was a great video, I've seen ones miles better, it did the job though, which is what counts, but I think I'll be keeping the day job.... :P Edit: Although, based on that landing, maybe it is time to give up the day job... Regards, Ró.
