Aaah... The higher you set this value, CB, the more textures will be allocated per frame to the graphics card, and a modern GPU, such as th OP's 580 can easily absorb this rate - not that I'm any particular genius in this realm, but it agrees with the figure quoted in Nick's recommendations (suprise)(not that I follow Nick at all - actually quite the opposite in many of his posts, but that's another story). That figure is also close to the result of a series of calculations, based on GPU memory type, frequency, bandwidth, and Gl. Texture Resolution - postulated by a group of 'simmers' about five years ago: This is also similar to the recommendations contained in a cfg settings spreadsheet published on the DigitalThemePark's website. When I found that, and the earlier posts, I worked with them both for weeks, testing and calculating, and found that - whereas it's not wholly 100% accurate - it gives a very good, close figure to work with. The 580 - GDDR5, 1524 MB, 2004MHz, 192.4 Gb/s - comes out at at a TBM of 157, and it works very well. In my present fsx.cfg I use 120, having slowly worked up to it over the last two weeks during the ongoing DX10 saga in this other Avsim forum:- http://forum.avsim.n...hints-and-help/

 

Starting at 72, it provides progressively improved stability and progressively less ground flashing - particularly with DX10, as 120 is approached.

 

As pretty well everybody on this site works at improving their FSX cfg, I think you might expand on your statement?

Word Not Allowed's tweaks don't actually work very well for me for some reason, but they do in Prepar3D :mellow:

 

Nick's old guide which is stickied isn't actually what he uses anymore i wish they would remove it and bury it, I use his new tweaks and they work out very well for me
