Prepar 3D Performance at 6.0GHz

Featured Replies

I was wondering if I were to overclock my i7 2600K to 6.0GHz using the multiplier and the FSB speed, if I could achieve 30fps+ at an airport like FlyTampa Boston in the Virtual Cockpit of the NGX. I'm currently running no overclock, 12GB of 2000MHz RAM, and 2 GTX 560's over clocked on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. I currently get 20fps+ and was looking to get no less than 30fps-40fps at a very large add-on airport with out AI traffic and medium settings.

Happy BBQ!

Thanks for answering the question. I am well aware of what I am getting into, I have even gone so far as to contact Intel. I have the cooling under control.

You're never going to reach that overclock so the question is moot.

OK, so here is the next "MOOT" question. What do I need to never drop below 30fps at an airport like FlyTampa KBOS in the NGX VC???

Connor Anderson

Hehe. They are right, but you should get to 4.5ish. At that speed fsx should run very well, my guess, withyour GPU,

min. 22fps at a complex airport like orbx ymml. But no guarantees, just oc until reliability tanks.

you should not be so fussy? for KBOS it is always an expected 12 to 20 fps performance

But seriously, this is how you do it:

  • Turn OFF your fps counter... right now son
  • Get a thick pen and write 90 on the upper left corner of your monitor
  • Turn on P3D and ENJOY

OK, well that doesn't make me happy. I guess I'll go somewhere else with my question.

Connor Anderson

You're not going to get what you're asking for because it's simply not possible. 20fps at KBOS is about all you're going to get unless you turn your settings all the way down.

People have gotten higher, but my 2600k does not budge past 5GHz stable. I can run FlyTampa Tampa with the NGX at a smooth, stutter free experience with my NGX with settings all turned to Very Dense....Extremely dense in other areas. I can't say for the FPS cause that is a silly mark to want to hit. The sweet number and name of the game is smooth running, not high numbers.

FSX is not baseball....we can't go off numbers and stats when tweaking our systems....

Well, if he was intending to use dry ice or some other exotic cooling solution, it's quite possible to do what he was intending. I would have been interested in the results.

A lot more to extreme overclockig than cooling alone. Would have to have access to cherry picking components that go along with such an endeavor. Your main board especially.

AMD over clocked an FX 8150 to 9.0ghz in a test. Using NH3 for cooling (Not something ya want to keep around your house). I can spin an SB chevy engine at 12000 rpm. For 15 sec.
