September 22, 201213 yr Author Judging from the screenshots I found that it's VC is almost flat. Is that true? Thank you. Zicheng Cai
September 22, 201213 yr I cannot recommend this addon. * Very hard to use switches in the VC * VC is dated * Several non working buttons (Only affects you if you are above casual simming I suppose) * A/P does some rather intersting acrobatics on occasion * VNAV page 2/2 will cause CTD (I think FSUIPC may have stopped this, but access to the page is VERY unreliable) As mentioned, Flight 1 does have a 30 day money back thing going, so try it if you must, but I was underwhlemed to say the least. September 22, 201213 yr Judging from the screenshots I found that it's VC is almost flat. Is that true? Thank you. That's true unfortunately. And agreed it's hard to hit the buttons in VC. Then again I did buy it back in 2007. My does time fly. But it's still one of my favorites, and as a registered owner I was able to get the update for FSX from Flight1.
September 22, 201213 yr Great airplane, dated graphics, no proper virtual cockpit night lighting. But Flight1 has a money back guarantee policy My opinion on the ATR... September 23, 201213 yr I have a CD version of the Flight1 ATR 72-500 that I simply don't use (haven't used for years, honestly) that I'd be willing to part with. I have an EMB-120, FFS Saab 340 and PMDG J-41 that get all my twin turboprop time. It's the FS9 version but will run in FSX with the Flight1 supplied patch/upgrade being applied. PM me your details and I can post it to you. Jim (kohanjj)
September 23, 201213 yr The ATR was a good add-on when it was released for FS9, but the conversion to FSX was not done properly and I remember is as very buggy. Get the J41 instead. Rolf Lindbom

September 24, 201213 yr Some people here seem to be happy with outdated visuals if the systems are simulated well. I guess that's great if you are happy with that but for me personally I couldn't care if every last gizmo in the plane functioned 100% realistically - if the visuals aren't up to par with modern high-fidelity addons, I won't be flying it. Sorry but I just need those visuals for the sense of immersion. Flying the Flight 1 ATR might be very realistic in terms of systems but I felt like I was sitting in a painted cardboard cutout of a cockpit in that 8 year old (or whatever it is) VC. Bottom line, get the J41 if it's a choice between the two. Will definitely be my next plane now that I've found a VA that actually uses them. If you really are curious about the ATR (like I was) I would again echo the advice of others here - try it and if you don't like it, return it under Flight 1's 30 - day refund policy.

I already have the PMDG J41 but it's quite a rare bird. So I'd like to try on the ATR. Zicheng Cai
September 24, 201213 yr If you really want a turboprop perhaps wait for the upcoming Dash 8? Anyway, flight 1 have 30 days so you can try, and if you dont like it then can get your money back.. Also, might be worth trying to find an original boxed copy for cheap somewhere. Brent Lewis

I actually still think it has a very nice feel overall to it. Of course it is not on par with the best of today's FSX addons eye-candy wise but the proportions, sounds and gauges are very good. Lots of new add-ons also feel sterile to me, lots of modelling but not enough texturing if you know what I mea. Sascha Rieger | EVO Developer What is EVO • How to get Evo 2016 • FS9 Evolution Forum
September 24, 201213 yr The ATR was the first 'complex' plane with a FMC that I owned but I love it and have learnt to live with the foibles. Its ceiling is 24000 ft and is a lame bird in the climb. I program a vertical speed climb of 150 - 190 kts and seem to get to my cruise in the end. 'Hotel Mode' is simulated and you can use the propeller brake to hold on engine #2 while it provides power to the plane. It's not simulated on the new XP10 model. You have to set your own V1, V2 speeds and this is helped by a rich manual giving you plenty of tables at the back. It doesn't do VNAV, so you're on your own with your climb, but it does give a recommended ToD in the FMC. The FMC is well featured and WILL crash on my PC if 1) you have a new NavData file and don't de-select the arrival bits and 2) if you endlessly click around with the buttons. AND you can program a hold. Take that J41. You can do a rapid decent with the use of reverse in mid flight. The TCAS works. The low stall speeds and the short landings are great fun. Landings seem to be very flat and only a light flare is needed. You can fly into EGLC. Yes it looks a bit dated and now the -600 is out, they should do the 'pmdg' treatment on that for FSX. But it has brought my hours of fun for my money. This plane is in my toolbox along with the iFly 737, BN2 Islander, FSX 172, and Lancair Legacy. September 24, 201213 yr Zicheng, My (former) CD version of the Flight1 ATR 72-500 is all packaged up and will be posted to you shortly. Hope you enjoy it, I'm happy someone can make use of it, and wife's happy to get another piece of my Flight Sim hobby out of the house. Now that I've cleared a spot on the FS Add-On shelf think I'm going to have to re-fill that spot! Jim (kohanjj)

September 25, 201213 yr You can do a rapid decent with the use of reverse in mid flight. I didn't know that but definitely something I will have to try! I admit the Flight1 ATR has some dated looks but it's still an awesome airplane with great sounds and everything. What it lacks in looks it makes up for in feel. It's like the Dreamfleet 727 I just installed since I am re-installing FS9. I have most high-end aircrafts for FS9 and just by chance the first plane I installed was the DF727. Now one week later I still haven't installed any other airplane because it's so much fun handflying the tri-jet! It definitely looks very dated too, like the ATR, but it's such a blast flying! Looks isn't everything (that's why I managed to get married I guess...) Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
