ProATC-X Update

Jim - actually, I wasn't referring to real world or sim flying experience, that is irrelevant since at Avsim we're ALL simulator pilots ALL playing wanna-be in some form or another. What I was referring to was the actual software itself. You say that its better than Radar Contact and I was interested in learning, in your view, how this exceeds Radar Contact since that is a pretty strong statement. How about ProFlight?

Again, I was comparing it to its competition, nothing more. Radar Contact and ProFlight and other ATC simulators all offer "canned" ATC traffic...so I was still wondering what other ATC features this software offers? Especially for the exorbitant price and long list of bugs.

Hi Mike,

I completely agree with what you're saying. I have purchased pro-atc, I have tested the software and it falls really short of RC and certainly short of PFE (the former proflight). No communication with AI aircraft, just some canned chatter and a solid price ticket for a beta product. The only advantage of pro-atc is that the developer is still active and the devs of RC and PFE seem to have retired.

Whoever comes out with a software that beats Radar Contact, will make a lot of money. This is one area of the hobby that is really lacking. I've watched the ProATC videos and I have to say I'd never buy it as is, it sounds horrible imo.

Hi, I am a past user of RC4, a very recent past user actually! I bought PRO-ATCX as I was taken in by the description on their website, specifically the bit that said "Complete air traffic control by PRO-ATC/X from the gate at departure airport to the gate at destination airport" and "Worldwide navigation database containing all data for airports, VORs, NDBs, Intersections, departure- and arrival procedures (SIDs/STARs)".

I also liked the idea of proper voicing.

The reality is that they are selling a beta development product at fully developed software prices and seem to be expecting the customers to do the debugging.

Ive got no problem with a company selling a product that is not yet "Fully" capable but that needs to be reflected in the price and webstore description. I and others have had loads of problems with this software, it repeatedly loses track of where you are, controllers give up controlling, wrong heights assigned on approach and navdata which is years outdated old in the version they sell you, meaning additional expense to update the AIRAC.

Pointedly it was never offered as a trial version so that prospective customers could check it out, and also no refund policy as far as I can find (unlike Flight1 with their IFLY737 package)

My advice would be to check the PRO-ATCX forums and wait until the existing customer turbulence subsides before purchasing, perhaps by then they will be able to justify their sales pitch and pricing.

As for me, its going into my "should have known better" box and I'm getting out my RC4 again!

We had plenty of naysayers in the previous thread on this subject. Therefore, before this thread gets out of hand and off-topic, I'm locking it. I didn't intend to make this a forum for product bashing. Thanks for your contributions!

Best regards,

Jim
