September 28, 201213 yr In the middle of 7 hour flight crzing at FL330 MD11 dropped unexpectedly to "protective thrust". Was able to correct by applying GA thrust but would be interested in what may have caused the seemingly unprompted drop to protective thrust. Thank you, Ken Boardman FSX Accel, Win 7-64 Ken Boardman
September 28, 201213 yr seemingly unprompted drop to protective thrust A sudden change in winds perhaps? I'd recommend ActiveSky as the weather controller if you don't have that. Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
September 28, 201213 yr Author Thanks Kenny. I actually use A2012 and it was connected throughout the flight. There were several significant changes in wind speed and direction so perhaps that was the cause; although I've done many other similar flights and not seen this. Best regards, Ken Boardman Ken Boardman
September 30, 201213 yr Commercial Member Ken, Unless you're using some sort of wind smoothing through Active Sky (DWC mode, or some other option), or through FSUIPC, wind changes at altitude happen from time to time and can cause issues for any plane. Kyle Rodgers

October 12, 201213 yr Guys, if you are using Active Sky 2012 or Evolution, you'll definitely want Direct Weather Control enabled. However, if you're using Active Sky Evolution, you'll probably want to start using FSUIPC options for wind smoothing. Thanks!Nick CrateChief Executive OfficerFedEx Virtual Air Cargo

October 12, 201213 yr but would be interested in what may have caused the seemingly unprompted drop to protective thrust. Ken I have the protective thrust mode activated frequently when flying the MD-11 using AS2012. This occurs over The North Sea on flights from Europe to the west coast of the United States. It occurs when the TAT suddenly sifts from a -8C to +47C and the EGTshoots thru the roof. So it's not only wind but temperatue also. HiFi has no clue as to a solution. The solution I use is to alternate fflights between Eurpoe-USA and Asia-USA. Not an elegant solution but it works. Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
October 12, 201213 yr Commercial Member TAT suddenly sifts from a -8C to +47CHiFi has no clue as to a solution. They should realize such a jump is impossible, so do something to either smooth it out, or reject it completely and use the last known good temp. They obviously *STILL* assume the data must be good (when we know it often isn't!!). A little bit of data analysis goes a long way... Best regards, Robin.
October 12, 201213 yr Agree! Have experienced EGT spikes myself, which of course ruins my "level of immersion". But only for a sec or two. ^_^ ----------------------------------------------- Morten Haughom Greetings from the sticks! N70° 22' 23 - E031° 06' 02 Vardø, Norway
