Long Flights are actually LONG!

MS Flight :LMAO:

Obviously you've never tried it. For GA stuff, it gives a much better feel than FS ever did.

I simply wonder why people do those long flights when in fact they are going to sleep, go do the daily stuff (work/groceries/etc.) and when they come back land the plane. Wouldn't it be more logical to do two short flights? That way in the same time spend with the sim you get two take-offs and two landings...

But that might be me. I always do short flights (max 2.5 hours)

Yeah, have it and and all addons except the pitless planes, but doing long hauls in Flight, Where would you fly them and what to fly them with? I feel ripped by MS supporting something I hoped would get better even if I didn't use it.(Thought maybe after a couple of years it would become FS11)

And for me personally I get just as good feel flying GA in FSX been in the physics discussion before and flight didn't give me more challenge than FSX whatever others may say(Allthough there was some improvment but for me it was subtle), Scenery I have is much better in FSX(Alaska I think looked butt ugly, airports wasnt any good, looked default FSX), lack of life(AI, birds, People Flow, Creature Flow, cars, boats), and last Flight is dead and buried by MS(Would have been great if MS continued it and let 3 partys enhance scenery etc, adding AI the whole world+++++All things that i can get in FSX the list is endless )

Have the Baytower RV, and I think it feels better than the RV in Flight...It even has structural Icing effects..

And Real Life weather? that can surprise you not like the predictible weather in Flight

Also many of the planes I own have enginge wear and tear that can give me many surprising events(i.e Katana 4X). Didn't see any of that in Flight

And About the Smoooooothness in Flight, tweak FSX right and it runs just as smoooooth.

But lets not turn this Into a Flight vs FSX been there done that! ^_^

Sh.it feel like I have opend a can of worms this can turn ugly....MODS!!!!!!!!!!!! help stop this thread

Little point throwing away at least 6 KWH of electricity for a 10 hour flight where I would only enjoy really two hours of it (planning, preparation, taxi, take-off, climb to cruise, descent, approach, taxi, parking)...

It is high time we realise that energy can't be wasted, especially when we don't actually sit in front of the screen...! It's just plain common sense.

Exactly my point.

Some of you clearly don't have children :P

I do, which is why I started fiddling with that time acceleration function in the first place. Now that I do it all the time in cruise it seems really silly that I used to fly 1x only.

Sorry to all the tree huggers, but I have my computer on 24/7 anyway for a number of other reasons not just simming :P Not feeling I waste anything I pay for my electricity so why can't i use it the way i like?

You pay for gasoline too, but you don't keep your car idling in the garage when you don't use it. If you really need to run your computer for 24/7 for any reason you might want to consider not doing that with your FSX machine, but get a little power efficient server or NAS or something. That's what I did anyway.

Hard to explain, but I just get a kick out of flying real world routes, some of which in the heavies such as the 744 and 763.

Cheers,

Alex

I have found this thread so amusing. The whole mentality of "as real as it gets" is so subjective, we have to remember we're all just simulating flights on a chair at home. So what's the big deal about time acceleration? I'd be damned if I forbid myself from drinking a beer while flight simming just because i couldn't on a real flight.

I do have to admit, I sometimes do the go for a full nights sleep during a really long cruise. The flight feels so much more satisfying when I don't accelerate time.

Oh, I totally agree that there were a ton of things missing from Flight.

I was just saying the option is there, for the people who said they would go to the map and move their aircraft or whatever. Personally, I love Flight, I think that for what it *does* have, it's fantastic.

Having never tried Flight...what happens when you fly past the edge???

Ok, but most of the time I do long hauls I actually sit by my computer just taking small breaks from it, having friends visit or other stuff but I have the volume on so i can hear if there is trouble(Using the Stratocruiser most of the time I must be aware when that enginer calls out that one off my engines is running to hot)

But there are many reasons for me having my computer on 24/7 besides using it as a server and I won't go into the details(Then I would have to kill you  )

And I quote myself trying too be diplomatic:

I guess everyone have different opinions wether to fly realtime or speed up simrate, It's good we have a choice to do so or not so that makes everyone happy

While waiting for Alaska DLC I tried to reach the mainland, every time I refueled my plane re-spawned at the scenery edge. Not even at the map’s edge.

It felt something like Bill Murray’s “Groundhog Day”

And Yes, Flying in Flight actually felt great.

On topic: I used to do the whole gizmo from MMMX to LEMD and other long hauls.

Nowadays I’m flying low and slow, most times just a couple hours; but occasionally fly the Citation X from MMTO to KSEA or KHQM so I can get in the Lancair or the Scout and enjoy the Pacific North West.

Cheers

Yeah, sorry for going a little mad on you. It was just because you implied that I haven't tried It and you brought up some bad feelings in my mind about the whole Flight flopp.

But It doesnt help people running FSX giving advice what Flight can do and you are in the FSX forum, also think everyone here is aware of flights features and it doesn't answer OP, which btw I think run fast as he could out of this discussion when he saw what he triggered havent seen him post since he started the topic. :P

Sorry Andy

Cheers

I don't even fly long haul flights. I try to limit the flight time at 45M. So far my longest flight has been from St.Marteen to the Las Americas airport in Dominican Republic in an A320. I have pay ware scenery for both so yeah.

I don't do long haul... Like someone said earlier, it's pretty silly having your PC watching the water go by while your watching "Space 1999's" box set in the other room.

I prefer to do long haul tours. I'll pick an area with interesting land features, and flight plan all the airports within it... trying to pick ones in the tightest places. I'll fly posted You Tube RW video flights too... curious to see how the terrain is the same or different.

About the longest flights I've done have all been RW GA piston/turbine flights. An AVweb vid spoke with someone who made the trip from Wick Scotland, to Oshkosh WI in a NON-AUTO PILOTED C172!! So I did that run once... but it took me a couple weeks.

I would like to do a 'round the world flight... see if I could break the record of 80 days.

^_^
