Hi, upon watching the replay of some takeoffs I did, I noticed that in some of them I did a tail strike during rotation, but in fact, during the takeoff from the cockpit, I did not realize that, since it looks like the tail strike is not simulated.I mean, the fuselage "penetrates" the ground as if it were water and not a hard surface. On other aircraft I used in the past, you even hear the scratching sound of the lower fuselage on the tarmac. Is there anything wrong with my configuration?

Tail strikes on takeoff (about 80% of tail strikes occur on landing rather than takeoff) are usually a result of improper rotation technique. For the proper technique how to initiate the take-off roll, rotation and tail clearance and angles at which tail strikes occur (736 16.2°, 737 14.7°, 738 11.0°, 739 10.0° (!) ) check the FCTM on pages 3.7-3.10

Well, I am not discussing that I am not able to take off without a tail strike, what I want to highlight is that the interaction between fuselage and ground is not well simulated, because if I strike the ground with the NGX, the fuselage penetrates the ground as if it was in water!

Are you looking to have the simulator detect there is a crash or trying to find a workaround for the aircraft not sinking though the runway?

Rotate at 5-7° with the 737-800, as soon as the main gear is in the air you can raise the nose to 15° pitch.

The detection of the crash, or looking at it from an external view and having it bump the ground, would take a significant re-working of the sim itself. The sim's crash modeling is terrible, so I wouldn't really advise holding your breath for it to get better.

 

Remember, this is a flight simulator, not a crash/disaster simulator. While yes, it's nice to know your decisions have consequences, it's really here to help you learn more about flying and its related concepts.

Are you sure about that Kyle? Most addons I use simulate a tail strike. I thought that was standard in FS

I don't spend too much time outside when I fly the sim, but most of the time, when the aircraft hits the ground, it doesn't hit the ground as you might expect. Part of the plane sinks through, and it just doesn't look like it would out on the real side. I think that's what he's asking. I've definitely seen some models simulate it with an effect like smoke, or tripping a light in on the deck. I think it definitely recognizes some part of the plane hit the ground other than a wheel. I just don't think it simulates it visually, realistically.

Ahh I see, never looked from the outside. Why is the op looking outside during rotation?

The issue could be fixed by adding a contact point at the position where the tail skid would normally be....

At least there should be a bouncing of the fuselage or something that prevents the fuselage from unrealistically sinking into the ground and that, at the same time, makes me understand that I am hitting the ground! I can't believe it is not possible in FSX when for sure it was possible in FS9 (I remember the LDS 767 loud scratch sound during a tail strike...)

That's a good idea ;-), anyone knows how to do that?

I am not sugesting that he should use that INSTEAD of proper rotation technique, I am mearly sugesting that in that case the plane would depict tail strike more realistically...

Rotate at about 3 degrees per second until reaching 15 degrees nose up.
